Rover Run Sunday November 13th

#1 Post by Rob » Mon Oct 17, 2016 8:26 pm

**** UPDATE**** Nov 11th

The run for the 13th is a "go" however we have to change the route because the Glenora Main is closed for the weekend. Copper Canyon is open so we will look at going that way with likely destinations including HolyOak as well as routes in and around Mt. Prevost, Hill 60 and possibly the clay pits which might make for some great "mud" shots with all the rain.

We will change our meeting spot to the Red Rooster Restaurant near Chemainus which is on the main highway about 11 kilometers north of Duncan (next to the Russell Farm Market). Breakfast (if you want) will be at 9AM and we'll plan to depart by 9:30. There is also coffee and fuel available nearby and the Farm Market always has some good food available for the road. Be sure to bring your lunch, cameras and a radio (VHF/HAM preferred but FRS or CB also work), goal is to be back on tarmac by 3ish.

See you there! Rob

I'd bring the Discovery though and not the Lightweight. Still not confident that it wouldn't break down somewhere on the highway. Maybe in the Spring.

Hi Rob

Glad this web forum is working again we probably have Dave Blair to thank for that. But back to the topic the drive sounds good and thanks for the seat I guess Marg and I will meet you at our house before the drive to Mill Bay. Maybe Eric and Sue will also come along we are almost neighbours now that they have moved to the Island. See you on the Sunday.

Victor 1962 Dormobile ... Currently off the road again, this time with clutch master cylinder problems (This one lasted 3 years and maybe 3000 miles.)

Hello all,

Best laid plans all shot to hell I'm afraid. My sons football team made it into the playoffs which is great, but the first playoff game is Sunday, Nov 13th at 12 noon. Damn it!! Sorry, but I'm going to have to miss the outing :(

Have fun.

Hi Rob

I do have a friend coming along Sunday driving in a J**P but he knows the rules . Back of the pack behind the diesel Land rovers. Unless the other makes outnumber the Land rovers.
Seriously though how many folks are actually coming how about a show of hands now that the big day is fast approaching?

Hi Victor, Hi Rob,

You can count me in. A friend of mine will join me as my co-pilot.

Hi Rob

Good to go at the new location, there will be 3 in my breakfast party, (if you are reserving a choice table for the rover group.)

Sorry Chaps... half way through a suspension install on the Disco and got stuck on two rounded off shock tower nuts. She's gonna stay on jack stands tonight and I'm tackle it again in the morning - likely won't make it down unless I get up at an uncivilized hour...

Well, another typical run up Mt. Benson to HolyOak Lake, windy, cold, rainy, foggy but no snow this time :D Started with a nice breakfast then wandered off for a tour around HolyOak Lake with 4 Defenders and 2 J**ps. The trip then branched-off to a second loop behind Ladysmith up the Comox Logging Road and return on the northwest side of Mt. Hayes along Haslam Creek (3 Defenders and 1 J**p). Lots of puddles, a few crossings, one brave deer and lots of rain! Good times and we all made it out in one piece again. Thanks to all for coming and looking forward to the next one (with a little less rain next time). Pictures to prove we did it:
