I have a decent 4.0l currently in a 1998 Disco (disco 1 i think- staighten me out there if thats not correct) and want to swap into my 3.5 1987 RRC truck (it had original 13cux, ive upgraded to 14 cux).
I would like to bring over the serpentine arrangement, power steering pump, AC, etc. That is on the 4.0
But not the Gems. I like the 14cux.
My concern is the distributor. Will the distributor-less 4.0 run on the 14 cux? (Without adding a cam and distributor)
I would consider a megasquirt if necessary to make it work...?
I am a decent mechanic (haha, at least i think so:) but definately not an engine rebuilder, and swapping a cam, front cover, distributor is getting to the edge of my comfort level....i think the 4.0 have a longer crank nose -also freaks me out btw...
I am hoping i can simply bolt the 14 cux with its fuel line, injectors, intake, etc onto the 4.0 gems long block. ( im not so dillusional to think thats all that is required, but im finding mixed info online)
Thanks
**the 3.5 does not blow blue, eat oil, leak, overheat, nothing! Just a bad cam as far as i can tell at least...ive driven it with the horrible "clacking" coming from directly under intake plenum for 1000 miles and now its loosing power. It will be up for sale dirt cheap after i ravage the top off of it. Thanks***
Also a stripped 1998 disco- no diffs on it, but trans and transfer, body intack, etc. Its a no sunroof model cheeep. Thanks again.
