The Rover-Landers of BC

I'm looking for a really good guide (preferably with pics/video) for rebuilding my gearbox.
I have the Green Bible, but I strongly suspect there are tips and tricks that experience has taught others that are not in the book.

Advice from you guys is also always welcome of course!

Yes there are a few tricks that are really handy to know, just keep googling for articles on transmission rebuilds there are lots of really helpful sites out there.
The Haynes manual instructions and pictures together with the official Land rover repair manual should get you through most of it.

The one trick that really helps when installing new bearing cones is to freeze (in a plastic bag) the appropriate part and heat the other part with a paint stripping gun the bearing cone will just drop in. No pounding. You do have to work quickly.

The main transmission rear lay shaft bearing cone is almost impossibly to get out if it does not have the 2 small holes through the case to tap the bearing cone out from behind. (Later transmissions will have the holes right from the factory.) Just drill the holes if they are missing.

One very important thing to do however is to buy only genuine quality parts (ask how I know this) I have bought a certain brand of aftermarket parts and received thrust washers with no oil grooves cut in them, gears that would not fit on the shafts, snap rings that went on then would not snap back into position etc. etc.
For the sake of a few hundred extra dollars it is worth doing it correctly the first time. It is just to much work to have to pull the transmission out again.
