Heated windscreens?
Anyone have heated windscreens installed? What are they like? How do they work? Can you see clearly through whatever heats them? (I can’t stand blurry, scratched, smudged windshield glass... one of those OCD things I guess).
I’m guessing that the combination of anemic defrosters and a leaky damp interior might make heated screens a smart indulgence - if they work.

Re: Heated windscreens?
I had them installed in my '60 SII. Since the only other heat I had was the Smiths demister I thought that they were the best accessory that I'd installed. They are great for winter as well as to defog in warmer and wetter climates. In really cold weather, -30°C or so, I found that if you needed to remove any ice the glass had to be heated while stationary before heading off at highway speeds or the glass didn't stand a chance of warming up enough. Like any other heated windshield if you look close enough you can see the wires. Some people seem to be bothered by this but I'm not one of them.

I had a heated wind screen on my Rover Classic. It was great. If anyone wants to do a group buy for Defenders I'm in.

Re: Heated windscreens?
I had one in my RRC and now currently have one in my Defender, I use it everyday in the winter months, it works great. As its my daily driver and like you I must have a clear windscreen, I consider it as a "must have" as the defrost is pretty much useless for the first 15 mins.
If you do get one installed make sure that you have it listed with ICBC, because if you chip or crack it they will only replace it with an original non-heated version.

Agreed on the group buy. I have a series 2a and I was planning on upgrading my standard windscreen. I had a Mini with one and I used it ALL THE TIME!

Presumably Jeremy can get them? Next time I’m shovelling cash in his direction I’ll ask about a group buy and see what he would need. Anyone else with a supplier lead go ahead and do the same...

We have been looking at Ricky Evans for a couple pairs, one for the 88, and 1 for the 109. you can find them at heatedwindscreens.com. Let me know if your placing orders please as the shipping could be quite a substantial savings in bulk, normally 210 pounds for insured shipping. the windshields them selves are only 70 ponds each.
