Degreeing the cam

I installed a new 2.5 cam in my 2.25 petrol as part of the rebuild, and I want to degree it to make sure I have the sprocket in the best position.

Anybody have any experience doing this?

Unfornetly not, buuttt I am interested in what your thoughts on the 2.5 cam are... I've been thinking of making the same change.

It's been over 30 years since my petrol building rover days but the last motor I did used a 2.5 cam and it seemed to be really good. I think I used a dial indicator and magnetic base to set it up.

I have the dial indicator with mag base, the degree wheel and about 20 bad YouTube videos...
I have to verify the numbers for the 2.5 cam, make some bits like the pointer wire, the piston stop and a bushing to get the degree wheel centred, then I can spend a day confusing myself...

The 2.5 is supposed to move the torque and max hp lower in the rev range, which is what I am hoping for. I’m a long way from driving the thing so at this point I will settle for it running well...

Well, I took a run at degreeing it today. I’m not super confident in what I saw, but it seems to be close to the specs I found. It was, I think, 3 or 4 degrees advanced which I have read is a good thing so that it ends up being more correct as the timing chain stretches as it runs in.
Timing cover is on so one day months in the future I will find out if I have somehow screwed this up...
