he guys hoping someone can share a little experience , i bought a 2.5 na for my 88 that iam building , ended up taking it apart , it has cracked head so i bought a head for it bottom end looks good , just going to measure the clearances and put back together . i started doing a little research and found that the motor is a 11j block . the way i understand it is there was the 2.5 na 12j that rover put the turbo on and it had horrible reliability , then they upgraded the bottom end for the later turbo motors 19 j. some 11j and 13 j military motors are the later upgraded blocks according to turners in the uk when i talked to them . mine is a later turbo block , ive sourced a turbo , manifolds , pump , piping, fuel filter , air cleaner off a 19 j in the uk for around 500 Canadian. i believe the pistons are different in the turbo motor so i will have to buy pistons but i think everything else will work , am i forgetting something ? now do i spend the extra 800 to 1000 bucks to make this a turbo motor or do i just leave it a na , iam really worried about the reliability , has anyone here had the later turbo version of the 2.5 ? if so did it last ? part of me thinks its just going into a 88 so is it worth the extra money for 20 hp , and possibly less reliability , i really dont want to be driving over the crankshaft a year down the road . iam really after some sort of fuel mileage thats why i decided to go with the diesel. i bought the motor for cheap thats why i went for the 2.5 na and not a 200 tdi . so can someone help me out the gentlemen iam buying the stuff off of in the uk is expecting a answer monday or tuesday , so do i pull the trigger and do it or stick with a little less power and possibly better reliability . troy

The only experience I can offer:
I drove an MOD 110 with a 2.5 Non turbo for ten years. It ate a water pump, and that's it. In the 110 it was slow, but it also had 1.6 gears in the transfer. I just got used to going everywhere at 80 kph. I got about 10L per100km in that 110, which was the part I liked. I drive our current 300tdi at 90 mostly, as I'm a cheapskate.

I'm not sure if that's helpful to you.

I have a overdrive for the 88 and I will be running 4.7 gear still , I want the reliability , maybe I should just leave it n/a . I live in a valley here in the Kootenays and every way out is some sort of hill the extra power would be nice I'm sure on the flat it should do ok . My 88 has to weigh alot less than your 110 I would imagine.

I would advise not going down this road trying to make a 19j. You will save yourself a lot of money by just buying the 200tdi

That being said I have almost everything to make a 19j and would be willing to sell it.

Cheers , Oliver
