Hey Steve, good to hear that you had such a great trip. I love Oregon... Portland, Cannon Beach, Tillamook, Coos Bay, Florence.... it all beautiful. Would have loved to be there but had committed to another trip  Hopefully next year. PS Wash that salt off really well, not to many trucks are the same after a session in the surf Yikes!

Wow, that sounded fantastic!
If we've landed on the island in time (fingers crossed, we should be arriving easter '05) you can count me in to tag along next year.
A convoy of Landies from BC would be a wonderful sight.
Crivens! I can almost feel myself parting with cash for much needed spares, over-sized burgers and too-cold beer aleady.

Moving. And yes, I did mean Vancouver Island.Greg S wrote:Are you visiting or moving? By "Island" do you mean Vancouver Island??
Our paperwork is held up in the backlog created by the introduction of new documentation for new, and all existing, permanent residents. The PR Card is a replacement for the old IMM 1000 Record of Landing.
It's becoming a major downer as our application went in over a year ago but CIC (or, rather, the embasy here in London) didn't even start processing it until February this year. Of course, they cashed our cheque on day-one. No flies on your government, eh?
According to CIC statistics, if we lived in Lima, Peru, we'd have been processed in 60 days flat. Go figure!
As it happens, we're over at the end of October to show the kids around, look at neighbourhoods and so on. We'll be staying in Sooke, but will be up Duncan way at some point as Shawnigan is one of the places we're considering as a place to live.
Know anyone there who can rent me a landy for a day?
Only kidding, the family (well, the wife) would probably kill me if I spent valuable vacation time poking around under the bonnet of a land rover. They have no taste.
Still, fingers crossed for Portland '05.

I dissagree. I think Land Rovers are quite tasteful.
Good friends of mine tried to move here from the US. It was embarrassing as a Canadian to see the crap our government made them go through. Some of the issue was empire building on the part of some bureaucrat. They gave up in disgust and moved back to San Diego.
Hope you have better luck, or is it skill, than they had.
Do you plan to be working in Victoria? Shawnigan Lake is higher priced than it might be, due to its proximity to Victoria. It is a trendy place to live and commute from. Very nice place too I might add.
