My 110 has the 2.5 n/a diesel. Great, reliable little engine, but it's a little underpowered for our roads. A 200 Tdi has substantially more HP and mates with the LT77 gearbox so it an easy upgrade. Unfortunately, I figure they are probably rarer than hens' teeth in Canada. Anybody know a North-American source for these engines, or do they likely have to be ordered from the UK? I thought of TUrner Engineering, who refurbish them, but it would be a pretty penny no doubt...
Thanks.
Where to get a 200 Tdi?

I have been looking for a cheaper one for quite awhile now. They show up on ebay.co.uk every once in awhile but usualy require pick up and go for 1800GBP. There are a few wreckers in the UK that will ship try equicar.co.uk or prb-services.co.uk. For canada rock-island-rovers.com had one last year and britrest.com advertises them as well.
The last time I checked Turner would only do exchange short engines not complete and you will need a new rad, intercooler, air filter and some wiring to do the conversion. Also keep in mind that Disco 200TDI's will not fit in a LHD Defender; I have seen them put into RHD trucks with some mods to the exhaust down pipe but on a LHD the steering is in the way.
Good luck and let me know how you do.

Thanks Mike. Indeed, bringing in one from across the pond is no cheap proposition, and not knowing the condition of a used specimen could make it a risky one too.
I've seen them advertised at Britrest but the one I've seen was a Disco tdi, which as you indicate will not fit readily in a 110. And very expensive.
I think you're right, Turner will not sell a complete engine. Getting all the ancillaries would not be cheap either.
Maybe living with a 2.5N/A isn't that bad after all. And in a year of two, it will be legal to bring in 1990 110's with factory fitted Tdi's, so that's probably the best route to go. Swap engines and sell off the import.
Cheers.
