power steering pumps

#1 Post by Bern B » Thu Apr 09, 2009 7:34 pm

Hi all

Here is my problem we have a 95 Disco with a 3.9 engine and the power steering pump has failed (serpentine belt). I have a rebuilt pump that came out of my 110 3.5, the pulley is for a V belt.

Question is can I take the serpentine belt pulley off the bad pump and change it with the V belt pulley of the good pump?

If anyone has done this, or can be done let me know.

Thanks Bernie

I changed my 200 tdi pump with a different model, I had to press on a new pulley mount, and machine the old one to fit. Mine is round and the spare had a triangular pulley mount.
It worked fine however the hose routing was a bit tight and the maching shop didn't align the pulley quite right so I ended up buying a new pump from Dixon for a very resonable price.

So it depend on the pulley mount (round or triangular).
And the hose routing.
And the alignment.

It can de done, but was a pain in the ass.
