Yah.... It is normal that the linkages need to be adjusted after that many years.... Have you really pulled hard on the handles? The problem is usually that the linkages need tightening. It is strange to have both inside and outside go at the same time though.
I would suggest taking the other door panel off as you should adjust all the linkages regardless. This will allow you to see how they are arranged and hopefully you can slip a bar next to the window and push on the linkage directly. Good luck.
Do you have a manual? I think that there is a good diagram in there.

I was in the Kootenays on the road last week and had the same problem on my drivers door. (LHD) The key turned in the lock, which unlocked and relocked all the other doors, but the drivers door wouldn't open. I got luck once after a ton of pounding both inside and outside with my fist and the door opened. I then followed instructions I found on rangerovers.net about elongating the 4 screw holes on the electric door lock fastening plate, as they were likely at their full adjustment when in stalled by the factory. I did this, and then tested several times with the door panel off and the lock worked well — however as soon as I reinstalled the door panel, arm rest and inside door handle bezel, unfortunately it had the same problem. I thought it may be interfence between arm rest screws or door panel plastic fasteners and the lock linkage, but to make a long story short, it was the bezel, which has a tiny stop to keep the handle from returning too far. When I removed this bezel, immediately the door lock worked, so I've since ground down the small stop and it now works well.
I would say if your problem is similar that you should first try removing the inside door handle bezel, one phillips screw, and then try and unlock it again.
Good luck.
