#1 Post by Will.P. » Wed Jun 17, 2009 7:25 pm

Any advice on getting a Series 1 door to hang straight? mine hang a little low and sag towards the door handle side. The hinge parts have worn into each other where they contact...
Is there a standard way of fixing this?

Thx All, Will

Will,

The hinges on the door should have some room for adjustment...loosen all the bolts holding the hinge plates to the door, put the door where you like it, and re-tighten.

You mention a lot of wear in those parts--the pins that fit into the bulkhead brackets? If they are severely worn, then you may need to get some new door hinge bits, or drill the holes slightly to give even more adjustment.

Severe wear in the bulkhead brackets would need a welder to fix up, I'd think.

Good luck!

I had a set that sat a bit low. Not wanting to opt for new brackets and/or welding on new parts to the bulkhead, I came up with an alternative. I took some thin (~1/16 thick) copper sheet and cut it into thin strips. I formed a small "U" shape and fastened them under the wear spot on the door bracket, just behind the pin. A dab of JB Weld to hold them in place. Fall out after a while? No problem to replace.

Not only does it make up for the wear, it now has a smoother surface that can be replaced instead of wearing more and more.
