Discovery 1 Lighting question

#1 Post by ehmyu » Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:04 am

Hi all,
I was driving my Disco 1 one day and all of a sudden the lights that illuminate the spedometer and my back tail lights went out. At first i though I had blown a fuse but after checking the fuse box beside the steering wheel, it seems fine. Has anyone experienced this before and if so what should i look to fix?
There is also a fuse box under the hood but that didn't seem to be the place either. Thanks in advance
Eddy

If it was mine the first place i would look is a "common ground" that has failed. You will need to check a good shop manual (RAVE) to track the common ground locations.

I haven't had a probelm like this in my Discovery, but it did happen in another vehicle of mine where a bunch of stuff went out and it was a common ground that had come loose.

Hi Eddy
The cause for the my lose of dash lights & tail lights was the fuse blowing.
The glove box light assembly dropping down & shorting out to the frame of the glove box. Glove box light is on the same circuit.

I went through about 6 to 8 fuses over several months. The fix was to wrap the edge of the light holder with pvc tape & wrap the exposed terminals on the light assembly.

Hope this helps :)
