battery draining problem

i have a 1998 range rover...what could be the best solution to my battery draining overnight? i already replaced the battery with new one but problem persisted.pls. help...

Look for a power drain. Something staying on when the key is off.

You might be able to check your fuses with a multimeter when the car is off and get lucky that way.

Try pulling half the fuses out tonight (I like to take photo first so you know what goes where) and see if it stops. If not, put those ones back and pull the other half. Then when you find which half is causing the drain, you can narrow it down by the same process until you find the guilty circuit.

You should be able to test the voltage drop in about 4 hours rather than wait till overnight and end up with a flat battery.

If that does not work, disconnect the alternator.

Easier to figure out within an ammeter.

fellows, do you mean busted fuses could cause the battery drain? or is there something to do with the RF receiver of my RR?Once activated by an external frequency...will drain my battery overnight?

No, quite the opposite -- if you pull a fuse and the drain stops, then you know for certain that the circuit that fuse was for is the circuit causing the drain. Thus if you remove half the fuses and the drain stops, it's one of those circuits, or if the drain doesn't stop then its one of the circuits for the fuses you left in. Then by process of elimination you can remove progressively smaller numbers of fuses until you find the specific circuit that is causing the drain. Assuming of course it isn't caused by an add-on circuit that doest go through the fuse box...

Hello Buddies, I've followed your advises and thanks ,my RR starts all the time.but the problem was there were no Heater and Aircon were down due to the Fuse #8 that I picked. The RF receiver that the culprit for the discharge and the heater/aircon circuit flows in one fuse. Any help?

You could rig up a temporary fix to give you heat while you're working on figuring out what's causing it. Put a switch in where the fuse used to be, like this:

Sorry, I don't know what exactly in the heater curcuitry would be causing it, as it should only be supplied power when the ignition is ON. Perhaps someone else will know now that you;ve narrowed it down.

thanks for the info...the inline switch with the fuse holder might work. my next move is to where will i possibly grab the device.any advise?

To all the Rover lander who shared their ideas on how to solve my problems on my RR...

Thank you, I was able to temporarily solved the issue on my RR about battery drain and Heater problem.

Now I can fully explain to a certified technician what causing it and what can be done to permanently solve the problem.
