The LCD display in my radio in my '95 D-1 works, but is not illuminated?
Does it have a bulb like the clock?
How do you get the radio out?
It has 2 holes, what tool do you need/

Kevin,
My radio has a similar problem. I took the radio out, but could not see an easy way to access the back light for the display. I didn't look too hard though...taking the radio out was incidental to another job I was doing.
There is a special radio removal tool to get the radio out. I'm not sure what it looks like, but I used a jeweller's screwdriver. Experiment with the sizes--one of them engages whatever is in there. Be careful with the plastic fascia surround...it's flimsy, and looks like it would break easily.
Make sure you have the radio code. It get's mad at you if you jiggle it too much.
Good luck!
