clutch goes all the way to the floor
hey gang, this week my clutch slowly began to feel spongy and now it pretty much goes all the way to the floor and it barely lets me shift into gear, it is biting right near the floor, it goes about 4-6 inches from when i push on pedal before it bites. I checked the master cylinder fluid and it is full. Anyone have any ideas what it might be and what i can try to determine exactly what the issue is? it is a defender 110 200tdi. what fluid should i buy for the clutch if i need to add?

ok so i just went and checked and there are no leaks from master to slave, i backed off the nuts on the master and that helped just a tiny bit, when i remove the master filler cap and then pump the pedal a bubble comes to the top, is this a problem, my thought was the piston going into the master naturally causes a bubble. Very new to this so any expert advice is new education for me. drove it around the block and it does not shift into the gears as easy as before. I should point out one more thing i found while under the vehicle it appears as though someone has drilled a 1 hole into the i want to say the gear housing, i talked to a mechanic and he says this was done to reset a spring or something without having to pull engine, anyhow there is a hole which water can easily get into, prob not good. any suggestions what i should do to cover. ok that is it i will wait for replies now. thanx gang

Hey Jeff
you just need to bleed your slave cylinder,
My truck does that from time to time, I bleed it and it's good for a year or so.
What you want to do is remove your slave cylinder from the bell housing (bell housing is the part where some moron put a 1" hole in it)
Its held by two M8 bolts
then turn it so the bleed screw is at the very top and
open it up just slightly and wait till fluid starts to come out.
All the fluid will push all the air out by gravity.
The best way of doing this is if you have a small hand vacuum pump.
