Low-compression heads for 4.0 petrol v8 (D2)?
All,
I'm planning to put a diesel in Cyndi's D2, but if I for some reason stick with gas, are there low-compression heads or thicker head gaskets to be able to use 87-octane gas?
Thanks,

Head gaskets
Hi David
I am just guessing here, I would just try using lower octang gas. The computer should just back the timing off. the result will be less than the full rated power but it should not hurt anything.
If it doesnt and you can here pinging when you are accelerating you will have to go back to buying high test.
Give it a try

How about using octane booster...
BTW, what diesel are you planning on putting in the D2 ?
General consensus I've read is, it's not worth the time, effort & cost to get it to work (correctly) with all the electronics. What you save in fuel has a long, long payback.
In 3yrs time TD5 D2's will be importable into Canada from Europe.... Ok they'll be '99MY but they'll be cheap to buy & RoRo shipping isn't that expensive from Germany.
Just my 2c...

Hi David, I alternate between 87 and midgrade in my 99 D2 and while its not as happy as with supreme, it doesn't ping because the computer retards the timing, and I find it generally acceptable. Since its every second tank, and I never let it get completely empty, I think I'm averaging around 89 octane.david.randall wrote:All,

I guess living in the middle of know where & only filling the D2 up every couple of weeks makes a big difference.... were still getting used to how cheap fuel is here compared to back in the UK.... btw, I used to use $125 - $200 of fuel a week just commuting to work (75 mile round trip) :cry:david.randall wrote:A $2 litre of gasoline will make a 300tdi or hs2.8 much more viable financially.
