June Events Vancouver Island

#1 Post by island dormy » Thu May 19, 2011 7:40 am

June 4th. The Nanaimo Airport and Flying Club are having a Wings and Wheels Airshow and Car show and shine. The Old British Car Club from Nanaimo are attending. So far 4 series Landrovers are preregistered and going to be there. Check the Nanaimo Flying Club web page for more info.

June 5th. We are going to do a another trip up Copper Canyon. This will be a day of gentle green laning. Meet at the Haida Way Restaurant at the corner of the Trans Canada Highway and Henry Road. Beside the big Antique Barn. (Chemanus turn off).
Coffee at 8:30 departure at 9:00am. Bring lunch lawn chairs radios etc.

June 11th and 12th. The annual Vancouver Island Landrover Rally will take place rain or shine. Please check the Vanisle Landrover network for more details as the usual order of events has been switched around and the Saturday drive will start much earlier. Saturdays drive is the rougher of the 2 planned drives.

Please let us know if you will be coming along to any of these events.

Victor and Greg,

What time is the drive Saturday the 11th? How "scratchy and denty" will it be?

Thanks,

Van isle Rover Rally

#3 Post by island dormy » Thu May 26, 2011 6:54 am

Hi David
The Saturday drive will be leaving the farm at 10:30 am.
Lots of peaple camp over Friday night so be gassed up and ready to go. Bring lunch radios etc. all the usual supplies for a trip in the bush.
If it is as rough as past years there is No Way you will be taking your wifes Disco on this drive.
You can most likely however hitch a ride with someone.

With me walking to work now and Cyndi commuting, she's taken over my VW diesel and given me her Rover; I still don't want it dented, but scratches are fair game :)

Well... I guess it depends who comes out on the drive, but body damage has occurred on a few of these. One trail we're aiming for is called Hamburger Hill and is a bit lumpy at the end, probably have to do winching to get up that hill. Park a winch truck at the top and pull up those that can't do it on their own. Mud area on the same trip that can be a challenge, I know, I've got a bend or two from the pit (mine tailing's).

I'll probably start the run Sat and go as far as I'm comfortable then turn around.

yOU COULD ALSO JUMP ABOARD WITH SOMEONE ELSE OR IN A FEW PLACES, STAND ASIDE AND BE A SPECTATOR, then take the by-pass trail.
Oops! missed a button. Guess which one!

That sounds like a plan. I'll have at least one of the boys along, so I want to be in my own vehicle.

Reza,

You and I'll find a non-denty path around.

#12 Post by Rob » Thu Jun 02, 2011 9:08 pm

Hi all:

Sorry but won't be making the run on the 5th (Grad Weekend so I am booked-up). We'll be around for Friday night but likely pass on the scratch run Saturday but will be around Sunday

Regards, Rob

if i can get a couple of issues fixed. i was going to bring both the disco and the Iltis. but the wife doesnt seem too excited to drive the disco on her own offroad. so we may just put the family in the disco and leave the iltis at home this trip sadly. too bad, i wanted to see how the new diesel in the Iltis performed.
ah well, may as well get a good trip out of the disco, she may be going for sale soon as its not very comfortable as a family truck.

Time of non-scratchy drive on Sunday?

#17 Post by davran » Thu Jun 09, 2011 1:39 pm

Gents,

What time does the non-scratchy drive start on Sunday? A forgotten family event will stop me from attending the Rover event on Saturday :( , but I can make the show and drive on Sunday.

Thanks,

Non scratch drive Sunday

#18 Post by island dormy » Thu Jun 09, 2011 7:57 pm

Hello
Why not come for Breakfast at 8:30 at the pioneer house which is located at Whippletree junction, just 2 miles south of Duncan.
After breakfast we will go back as a convoy to the farm and see about the rest of the days events.

There is no way I'll get the crew up by that time :) I'll be lucky to get everyone to Greg's by 11am...

The weekend is over! The Rally was great! Awards have been presented, prizes given, mountains climbed, molehills overcome. Nine Land Rovers completed (and nine started) the scratch and dent drive on Saturday. No carnage was reported. The Sunday "no-scratch" drive was a bit rougher than usual as they crew decided to make it a bit more upscale. Brent bent the trim piece under the drivers door. No real damage.

Prizes were given to long travelers, Paul from Langley, Johnathan, Michele and family from Lynne Vally received the survival kits donated from Saunders Subaru as did Brent from Nanaimo because he might need it. Prizes were given for first place in the Welly toss for best adult male, best adult female, best youth boy and best youth girl. Oldest Land Rover and newest, greenest footprint Land Rover and latest arriving to breakfast. There were a few more but I didn't keep track. We forgot to give prizes for the teeter totter. Oh- nobody got it to balance!

The field is cleaned up tent taken down and everything put away.

Thanks for a good time everybody.

Greg S and family.

Thank you Greg and all helpers for a great weekend! Congratulations too to Brent for being the only Rover to make the tough section of Sunday's "non scratch" drive; I chickened out. Cyndi and the boys had fun, and we look forward to next year.

Just wanted to thank Greg, Erica & family for, again, hosting another great event. Your hospitality was wonderfully appreciated. We (the Enge’s) had a fantastic time, from camping overnight on Friday, to doing the ‘scratch & dent’ on Saturday. The LR3 came out with only minor scratches that will ‘buff right out’. I wasn’t worred about it though. However, there was a bit of anxiety on the Kat’s part as it is our daily driver, and we are a single vehicle family, and she needed it for work the next day (Sunday). But they had a good time at the BC forestry Centre while I went off to mt sicker. Alas, the proof of concept was successful as the LR3 lived up to its marketing hype. I had to push a few buttons, rotate a few knobbies, but I got up that hill and over the rocks (with massive amount of help from people).

The food was excellent, we loved a good potluck, and Elise certainly loved the homemade cake and cupcakes! Next year we plan on being at it again, hopefully for the extra day, and hopefully with an additional LR of some sort. I’m digging that disco diesel.

I hope to see everybody’s pictures. I’ve uploaded mine to facebook. Most are LR3-centric.

I also put a video up:

If there is interest I can post up the other videos I have. The white defender, the disco diesel, the blue wagon…

Cheers for now
