Disco T-case
Has anyone on here ever dropped one of these suckers out of the truck.
I may have found a cheap replacement for mine and was wondering how hard it was to remove and replace them.
I have a 95 Discovery.
Cheers

Just finished the job in my D2. After doing it once before on the garage floor, I opted this time to do as much dismantling as possible at home, and getting the assistance of a local shop to re & re. It took 3 hours at the shop and cost me $150 which I thought was a bargain. I drove home with the console still open and only the front driveshaft in place.
Taking off the e-brake drum and shoes lightens up the job a fair bit, so I didn't bother reassembling that until I got the truck home.
BTW, how good of price have you found? Most I looked at locally were $700-900. I found a wreckers in Oregon that has good stock, and delivers to Blaine at no charge, and only charged me around $200 for the transfer case (including shipping!!):

cheers, Dave

Correct.... out of the 03/04 D2.... it has beefed up internals. Can run the hp22 but if your heavy footed you'll kill it :roll:davran wrote:Andy,
Switching to a 4.6 would you want the matched zf4hp24 trans? I think the 4.0 and td5 have the zf4hp22. I don't even know if the bell-housings are the same.

Re: Disco T-case
It's not hard.... you'll need to support the enging to stop it rocking back against the firewall. Other than that get it on a hoist & use a transmission jack. Bench pressing the box in & out is hard work.... there quite heavy even after stripping off the trans brake.... have done the same job may times on the D90 :roll:franko wrote:I may have found a cheap replacement for mine and was wondering how hard it was to remove and replace them.

On a 90, it is easy. You can put a rope on it through the seat box and pull it off.LandyAndy wrote:.... have done the same job may times on the D90
I thought there was a clearance problem on a Disco preventing it from going straight back.

i think the most annoying part of the swap is taking the interior console apart. other than that it should not be hard. shoot me an email i am back from the north west territories and can try and drop by.
cheers,
Reza

Just got a low mileage (30,000 mile) T/C on Kijiji Spokane for $100.00.
The guys buddy removed it from a 1996 Disco 1 in 1999 & had it sitting since then.
Luckly my buddy was in Spokane this weekend & met the guy there.
No problem at the border, gaurd was more interested in the fact that it was for a Land Rover??
Now just have to re-seal & also figure out how to change it.
Anyone got a good transmission? Mine clunks when shifting in reverse.
Found a shop in Seattle that sells rebuilt Trans for $1300.00
