engine swap

#1 Post by knightracer_08 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 10:40 pm

so i know people swap in small blocks in there rovers and im guessing there is an aftermarket bellhousing for this? Has anyone every done a 2.5l chev "iron duke" swap? just wondering since they were good strong engines and were fuel injected, found in the s10 and fiero. I have no interest in doing a small block swap.

Some instructions for installing an iron duke into a series LR from Teri Wakeman's site:

The iron duke is not a great engine. I've had a few S-10s with it. They tend to last about 200,000 km, and then they are toast. Underpowered, leaks oil on the intake valve seals, burns up rings, rebuild parts are pricey, etc. If you find one with really low kms then sure, but otherwise I'd look for a different engine to swap. That being said, the last one I had was actually spraying oil out the tail pipe, but still managed to run on all cylinders.

As for the bellhousing, the iron duke uses the GM Metric or Small Corporate pattern which is different than the V8s. Its the same as the 2.8 v6, an unbelievably awful engine that should be avoided at all costs.
