Gas Analyzer

#1 Post by swamijake » Thu Dec 08, 2011 5:16 pm

Does anyone in the lower mainland have a gas analyzer they will let me use for an hour or so? I'm happy to do so in your driveway, and can provide beer in exchange.

I have a 1956 series one. New weber carb, new bbcsimon electronic distributor. Runs great but failed aircare for high CO at idle and high nox while driving.

That tells me my idle mixture screw is too rich and I'm probably to advanced on the distributor, but this would be much better sorted out with actual measurement.

I can't believe they "aircare" antique vehicles, modified or not. I can't believe you could get a Series one to pass an emissions test either. Good luck! Or maybe it's skill?

It will make it through. I didn't fail by much, and I haven't had anything to set it up with. I've found a place to rent gas analyzers in Richmond, but still looking for someone with one in the garage.

Aircare is a pain in the butt, but I don't mind it to make sure that our air isn't full of Nitric Acid.

Series Air Care

#4 Post by ANDYD » Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:16 pm

I had a "friend" (wasn't me, honest Officer) that when he aircared his Series (which had a new Webber) would stop just round the corner from aircare, lean out the mixture by carb adjustment so the thing would barely run. Run it through Aircare (passed easily) then once outside Aircare adjust the mixture back to where it ran best. (remember how many turns you did on the mixture screw)...

Another option, register it at Greg's address, no Aircare required on Van Island!

Another option - Don at Rover Tech (N-Van) will make the adjustments and put it through Aircare for you, just drop her off and pick her up!
