Low-compression 4.6 from P38 RR?

#1 Post by davran » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:48 pm

All,

If I can find a low-compression 4.6 v8 from a p38 RR (I have found out this was an option), is it a direct bolt-in in place of the 4.0 in the '01 D2? They had different fuel injection, didn't they? Will the D2's injection bolt on?

I am thinking about this as the diesel conversion keeps being out of my grasp. If I put in the low-compression 4.6 I can use regular gas, I assume the extra displacement would make up for the compression loss, and also not tear apart the 4.0's transmission.

Thanks,

if you want lower compression, why cant you just lower the compression in your engine?
what would be the benifits of an engine swap rather than just running low octane on your current engine?

I was thinking that if I have to do head gaskets anyway, that money could go to an engine taht would run regular gas. Also, I assume the 0.6L extra displacement would make up for the loss of compression.
