Reframing series 3 88

#1 Post by m_kenton » Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:25 pm

Bought a frame ,put the engine in (no problem), bolted up the tranny, problem, the series 3 slave is hanging up on the frame cross member?? Are the earlier frames different?
Thanks

Yes. The older frames for II/IIa have the slave cylinder linkage on the opposite (right) side. When I swapped to a series 3 transmission, with the slave cylinder on the left, I had to cut away a bit of the frame gussetting to make it work. I don't know if your's is precisely the same, but I had to cut out and weld in a couple of spots to make things fit properly.

cheers, Dave

Thanks that explains alot. What did u have to weld as cutting the 'web' out seems to solve the problem?
Thanks
Marc

I also notched the right front side of the same cross-member, as with parabolic springs and extended shackles I didn't want the front driveshaft to hit the crossmember under full articulation. The time to do this is definitely when the frame is off!

I have some photos in this album, the last 6 specifically...

Also a fair number of pics of my frame swap here: http://roverlanders.bc.ca/gallery/view_ ... e=DaveMisc

Boy it seems like a long time ago! And look, I'm so young!

As far as the 109 body goes, here's a link...

Thanks for the info....I cut the gussets out and the slave fits as it should. I have over an inch clearance Which works for me
