Unless you've got a big bull bar, they look flat out ugly on the bonnet. I placed my spare on it, and there wasn't any buckling, and visibility was surprisingly good. I've also heard rumors of it improving fuel mileage, but I don't really know about that. But otherwise, I'd just build a spare tire carrier with a hinge, and put it on the back.
