Hey guys & gals. After many years of dreaming, last Friday I finally joined the Land Rover community with my new pride and joy... a 2012 LR4. Very excited!!
I used to be an avid 4x4 guy about a decade ago with my trust old bone-stock '86 CJ7 but it's been a while. So this morning I got up nice and early and headed straight for Mt. Prevost. As luck would have it the gate is still closed, so I went to the backdoor off Hillcrest Rd. Once I found the right in-road I was off with a smile on my face... for about 50 yards lol. Rounded a corner and suddenly I was on an alien mountain. Damn.... a decade sure does change things. I had no idea there was THAT much logging going on the backside of Prevost. Once upon a time you could drive the backdoor road totally under cover of trees till you hit the rocky mid-gate about 5km up the mountain (before the Cairn road). Still though, it's a beauty of a trip. Then I got lost lol. Funny how cutting down the trees makes one lose all reference to where you are. I eventually gave up on finding the Cairn road and turned around and went back the way I came. So yeah, not the trip I had planned but that's 1/2 the fun sometimes. Nothing crazy either, just a nice sunny drive.
I see there are a few other guys in the Duncan area. If you see a white LR4 driving around gimme a honk! Seen a few RR's and Discos in town so I know you're out there. 8)

Re: Rover newbie
Welcome to the group. We just had a great coffee meeting last week. Plans for an off road trip are on hold for another week or so till we get some rain. Being the cause of a forest fire can cost more than my insurance can cover so I'll be staying out of the bush till rain comes. That being said, yes, you can still get up there by some back roads but there is a muny employee that patrols the muny forests including Mt Prevost. Don't know what they could do?
We're thinking of our annual trip to Green Mountain as soon as the rains come and the gate opens, hopefully before November so we can still enjoy some leaves. Watch here for details.
Remember to wave if you see one of us out there in a Series truck.

I might have seen a muny crew out there. A white pickup with a wide utility box thing on the back... almost looked like a Telus service truck lol. Probably forestry boys. But if it was a muny truck he was a cut-block away so I was safe. I saw a sign at the start of the road warning all 4x4/atv/bike riders to drive at their own risk, but nothing saying to keep out.
Then again I've been out of the 4x4 loop for a while so what constituted a driving ban then vs now might not be the same. I'll have to take more care.
I'm heading back to work in Africa in a few days so I won't be around to join any trips for a few months. But once I'm back I'll try to hook up for a little fun.
