Return to the influence of Lord Lucas

#1 Post by Disco Vert » Mon Nov 12, 2012 7:37 am

Just re-introducing myself to the forum. I used to have several Series Landies and was registered as DocSavage. I have been drifting Roverless for several years, but have always been looking to return. I was specifically wanting a diesel, 200 or 300 TDi, not to concerned about the model. I watched UK EBay and the Japenese car auctions for several years hunting for the right deal. Finally found this 1992 Discovery I 200 tdi 3 Door with a whopping 35,000 genuine kilometers.

Yes, it is a Japanese RHD. I have been In Mitsubishi Delica RHD's for the past few years and have no issue with the wheel on the wrong side. There were a few things that needed replacement as it has obviously been sitting a while. There is some minor cosmetic work needed on the interior were the sun caused trim to peel up. The clutch hydraulic system had gotten water in it and needed all new parts. I will be putting 1.5" coil spacers in and looking at making a front bumper, sliders, maybe a roof rack. Also want to go out and play.

Nice James, and a three door, cool.

Are you going to bring it down to Founder's Day in February?

I think my 3 door would likely be only one in North America :D

Founders Day may be difficult unless it is in the latter half of February. We will be having a new addition to our family in mid January, but may do a road trip to it's Grandmother after.

Anybody up for the Telkwa Pass next fall? Will post in events later as I figure out the timing and difficulty.

Very cool indeed. I've been looking to import for awhile. What company did you deal with? I've been looking on Trade Car View, but they've been next to useless.

I can highly recommend Derek from Pacific Coast Auto Imports. http://www.pacificcoastjdm.com/
I imported my 300tdi Disco through them.
PM me if you want more details on the importing experience.

I had been watching this particular unit on the Japanese auctions for a long time wondering why no one bought it to bring to Canada. Finally I found myself in a position to buy the truck in Japan when it disappeared from the auction lists after over a year being available. A bit bummed I figured oh well, I will find another. Then in September on a random chance I decided to search Craigslist for diesel rover and this truck popped up. It had just been posted that morning, so I called and put down the deposit It was at Amazing Auto Imports in Richmond - he normally does Delica's. I paid a bit more than doing it myself, but from Prince Rupert paying extra to avoid having to deal with customs and inspections etc. Still, the final price to me was far less than the crazy prices some folks are asking for imported Landies. Importing a Land Rover from anywhere is not as hard as most think. The hardest part is getting the vehicle looked at at the site of sale. You must have someone you trust look at the vehicle as auction ratings aren't always what they seem. If you want a steering wheel on the left side - Swiss vehicles have high inspection standards.

Skeena River Rover,

Is one of yours the black one that was at Kalum Tire for inspection a while back? If so I already gave it a thorough look over - nice rig, even went in and asked the shop if they were by any chance selling it!!

I'd love to come out and play. I don't now the area well and would like to find some trails. How much snow is there (I haven't a clue where my chains are)? I may be able to come to Terrace on the weekend.

Hi JAmes,

Yes that was my 200TDI trail rig. I have a fancy one sitting at home a 300 tdi rebuilt on galvanized chassis with 2011 doors parts etc. That one is for the sunny days:)

Shoot me a PM.

See you soon!
