Island drive in December.
There was overwhelming support (100%) for an Island drive on a December weekend. Looking at my calender I'm thinking Sunday December ninth would work well. Anyone have any reason this won't work? Chime in now and it can be changed.
Due to snow on the hills, a road trip will suffice. Victoria to Port Alberni via Port Renfrew should get a good coating of mud on the vehicles. Through in a picnic lunch on a west coast beach and it should make for a nice, full day, outing.

Sounds like a great idea!
That weekend might be the only weekend that would work for me as well.
Have not done the back roads to Port Alberni yet,so that would be fun.

Re: Island drive in December.
Hi Greg
I would like to come along, Sunday November 9th works for me. If we know whos coming and were they are coming from we can pick a starting point and time that works for most everybody. so if you are planing to attend please reply to this forum so we can watch for you.
I know we are on Face book, Used Victoria, Yahoo, and personal email but if every body could reply on here it would really help the organizers of this drive. If things change it becomes a huge amount of work to try and contact everyone on the many differant formats.
See ya there bring the usuall, Lunch, hand held radios, lawn chairs and full tank of petrol this is going to be a fairly long drive. Everybodys welcome even freelanders.

Hi guys,
I'm new on here and would be interested in coming along. My 2a won't be roadworthy but the Range Rover (touch wood!) will be up for the task.
Cheers
Dave

I went for a little drive today. Checking out some of the route we're looking at for next weekend. Nice drive in the pounding down rain. Nice scenery if it wasn't fogged in.

Greg,
Hoping to make it out for this trip.
I am assuming this will be gravel up to port alberni and highway back down. I may have to continue up north once at port alberni depending on time.

Love to come. maybe meet at the 6 mile pub? Seems to be the popular land rover place right now!
Weather and child dependant if I bring the 2A or LR3

Re: Island drive in December.
Yup! Six mile pub is the meeting point for the start of what I figure will be about an 8 hour drive. If needed, we can bug out at Lake Cowichan, roughly half way. Once we are off the asphalt the roads are pretty good but lots of potholes.
We'll have to leave the Six Mile Pub BY 0900 to make the trip in reasonable time back to Victoria. Those of us coming from the north turn off Highway 1 at exit 11, Six Mile Road. The Six Mile Pub is at the intersection of Six Mile Road and Highway 1A.
Reza, By all means, I'd expect you to head north. LOL And I expect you'll get there by the logginng road to Cumberland.
There is NO PLACE for lunch. Bring your own, and drinks too. Bring TP and we hope you have a radio, CB, HAM or FRS/family.
Once we reach Port Alberni, it will be at least a 2 1/2 hour drive on the highway back to Victoria.

HI Matt
Is there any chance you have a spare choke cable for a single barrel webber carb? If you happen to have one could you bring it along on Sundays drive? (No panic on the cable if you do not have one my rover will not be out on the roads again till sping time.)
Greg and I should be down to the pub around 8:45, weather permitting. I hear there may be snow tomorrow.
Are you still planning to do the drive Sunday? Right now you look like the only particpant from Victoria.
See you tomorrow
Victor

Re: Island drive in December.
Victor and I should be rolling in to the 6 mile pub about 0845 -0900
Picking Victor up at 0745.
I hope to be home in Duncan by 1700 as that's when dinner reservations are. Do you suppose Erica would actually kill me if I were late? I don't think I'll try to find out.
Tata for now. See you all in the morning.
