BATUS red top

#1 Post by gmarrion » Sun May 05, 2013 9:11 am

Does anyone on this forum have an ex-mod defender from the British Army Training Unit Suffield? I am curious about these trucks and wonder if there is ever an opportunity to get one in Canada. I seem to recall hearing that there are some regulations that may make it difficult or impossible to get one but I know from some old picures that a few people got them in the past. Any info appreciated.

They used to be sold out of Calgary at the Mitchner Allen Auctioneers, but haven't seen any there for a long time...however I did stumble across some Wolf 90's that had been sold off from this government surplus web site.

Just put Land Rover as a search parameter and select what has sold...and you will see some examples.

None currently up for sale but it seems that occasionally they do come up.

It seems most if not all of the original Defenders are gone from the base. They are starting to get rid of some Wolfs, but I'm guessing it will be quite a few years until there are any real numbers. All the wrecked ones go off to a local wreckers where they are quite careful to make sure full trucks are not able to make it out.
