Ah… well I hope this works. This was generated by my Fugawi software, its pretty self explanatory & is nothing new to any of you guys/gals currently geeking out on the trail with GPS/laptop toys like us. One note the track generating this info also includes the trip upto Loadstone peak, you should be able to figure out at about what kilometer we where at the peak.[img][img]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/s ... rofile.jpg[/img]

Where is the start point at 1150 metres? Granite City?

No it doesn't start in Granite city i'll check the map track later, maybe i'll post that as well.

The waypoint 1152.3m is the start point. I did have the track up from Granite city, but I edited the map track for clarity & its not hard to find your way up from Granite City….well there where some forks hee hee.

Hi Paul,
I love the set up you had last weekend & now I've seen the chart & data results I'm really getting hooked!
I'm interested on how the new GPS antenna (roof mounted) performs over the dash mount GPS?
Is there such a thing as a Laptop mount? If you dont have a passenger to hold on to it, it would be a worry to just leave it on the seat. The first heavy hill decent would have it crashing to the floorwell!

Andy. There is a great canadian site for gps products. in CALGARY. It is GPS CENTRAL. they have terrific laptop mounts that fasten to seat bolts , with swivels etc just like police cars and ambulances use. a lot of variety of strength of mounts as well. use gps central.ca ,and go to laptop options. the next time i am in calgary i am checking out their store. i have bought from them before excellent to deal with.

Well Iâ€™ve had my good little e-Trex running beside a Garmin 5+ with the Garmin GA26C external antenna and well there is no comparison when trees combined with heavy weather and hills & mountains…the external antenna kept signal lock almost 100% of the time. The e-Trex more signal drop more of the time.

Iâ€™m currently shopping for a GPS 5 & external antenna set-up. Had to give back the Land Rover Experience goodies. :roll:

I can recommend GPS Central in Calgary http://www.gpscentral.ca/index.htm . I have purchased software & hardware form these guys, very good pricing, great inventory & quick delivery.

There are numerous laptop mounts out there, you could do a search on Discoweb.
You can check out these guys http://www.ram-mount.com/ as well. Course maybe you fab something out of a used brush bar. :shock: Sorry couldnâ€™t resist.

Your GPS will record your track so you can download at a safe location, so you donâ€™t have to have the laptop with you or always on, but of course for route finding itâ€™s a PIA when you canâ€™t keep checking your position.

Ahh..the bent Brush bar :cry: ....I was thinking to myself, how to try & straighten this. Then it came to me in a flash, I removed it from the RR, laid it on the floor, chocked it up with some wood & ran over it with the Range Rover. :shock: ...well, Hey-presto, its almost straight again. Apart from a few scratches it looks pretty good. :D

A few battle wounds adds character....

Andy, I may have a RAM laptop mounting setup for you, or anyone else that's looking for one... I bought a pretty nifty setup for the 88", but with the cubby box and passenger, there's simply not enough room to fit everything. I'll let the rest of you with more cabin space do the navigating...

So, I'm thinking of selling the RAM mounting brackets, ETopo southern BC map set, a Rayming USB GPS Reciever -- with magnetic mounting, used only once off-road for about $300 complete. Original price, with taxes for the setup was about $450.

Let me know if you're interested.

Andy,

I have a Rayming GPS receiver, likely the same as what Dave bought, for several years now, it works very well but of course you need to have a laptop along. If you want you can swing by and take a look at how I integrated a RAM universal laptop tray into my Rover. It might give you some ideas.

Sounds like your selling just what I need to get set up......the problem I have is I just blew my quarterly budget on a fancy new Canon digital camera! ......Dooooh, so many toys, so little cash flow!

John, thanks for the offer, I would love to drain your brain of useful tips...help me get better prepared for when I do have the cash to buy!
