Thanksgiving Day run Monday 14th Oct
Hi All,
What can we be thankful for...we can be thankful that we have a perfect sunny day forecasted on Monday! (don't waste it!).
As we were not able to get the Land Rover of Richmond run scheduled, we are planning to do a run up to the old Hand Glider launch pad at the top of Church mountain, Chilliwack. It is likely the last chance to get up there before the snow shuts the area down for the Winter and its just amazing up there on a clear sunny day. So eat your Turkey on Sunday and come out and enjoy the fresh mountain air on Monday!
Meeting at Whatcom Road exit of highway #1 (exit 95) Tim Hortons at 9am on Monday morning, departing at 9.30am sharp. Bring lunch along. Should be back on the road by 4pm.
Post up if you are planning on coming out,
Cheers,
Andy

I've been on more Roverlander trips before I was a member and even owned a Land Rover. Ill be trying to make this one to get at least one trip under my belt since becoming a member, plus the Green Machine (and its driver) needs to redeem itself after the 'Triangle Road Incident'..

As long as I'm back on the road by 4pm, I've got the 'go-ahead' to come on out.
See you on Monday.
See you on Monday.

How is this trail? Will the Ford fit? I may bring the family.

Re: Thanksgiving Day run Monday 14th Oct
Good to see lots of enthusiasm, a bit more info to answer some of the questions that we have here and via email.
I scouted the run a few weeks back, a really nice trail passing through some big tree, old growth sections that climbs up to the first landing at 4500ft. Lots of room here for lunch, there is a small creek and amazing views. Good spot for everyone to stretch your legs. The road up is light to medium off road with no sections that should cause damage. It is a little overgrown in some sections so some light pin striping is possible.
Then for the more adventurous there is a second landing which was the old hand glider launch which is another 1 km upwards. To get to the top there is a rocky landslide to cross followed by a very steep 200m hill climb. I would only suggest the more experience off roader tackle this part! This last 1km can be easily hiked for those who rather park at the first landing and walk up. (Or just hang out and relax at the first landing).
The Ford truck shouldn't have to any problems, a few narrow sections but nothing you can't handle.
Shouldn't be any problem getting back on the road by 4pm, when heading down we should depart the Landing no later than 2.30pm to keep you on track.
Cheers,
Andy

Andy,
Just want to confirm we are staying North of the 49th. We were googling Church Moutain and everything we found was south of the border
I got a potential passenger without a passport

Hey Roger,
Yep, no problem, although we do get close to the border, we do not cross it!
Cheers,
Andy

Fantastic time. Much thanks to all, especially for the organization and to all those who wiggled and poked at things to get my chariot started again. Big thanks Chris for getting me home save n sound.
