Does anyone out there know the proper colour of a 1974 2.25 gas motor? I want to try for a collector plate and am trying to get it as original as possible.

I went through the collectors plate application 2 years ago with my '58 Series 2, diesel. Engine colour doesn't even come into the equation.
The 2.25 diesel in the "Prime Minister" was and is a oily, black soot colour. I'm sure this colour came from the motor sump. ICBC expect that the body panels are straight.
That it's not a rust bucket, has the appropriate age related motor and so on. ICBC was more concerned with the intake hole in my right wing. They didn't believe me that
it was for the Canadian installed Kodiac heater, until I sent them the installation instructions printed by Land Rover. They were also concerned about my newly galvanized front
bumper. If you are determined to paint the motor, I have seen a lot of restoration motors painted a light green colour. I think it may be from Chevy. I painted the motor in my Lightweight that colour and it really gave it that professional look.

There were 3 colours used on series land rover engines that I know of. The early series 2 trucks had a robins egg blue/green colour engine. I painted mine the earlier colour and used a engine enamel paint called Detroit deiesel green, available from most auto shops. The later series 2a and 3 trucks had a light gray engine and finally the latest 5 bearing trucks had a red block.
Like Derek mentioned I doubt icbc would know this or even care.

My 1960 petrol seems to have a greyish-blue block with the top half spray-bombed red. No idea why.
