Whipsaw 23 July

#1 Post by PaulC » Sat Jul 09, 2005 5:20 pm

So our next Whipsaw run is fast approaching the 23rd. Do we need a sign-up sheet?
Or just respond to this…who is able to join us & would that be Friday night in at Granite Creek campsite or traveling up Saturday?

This is suppose to be a “work weekendâ€

Front recovery points....

#5 Post by ANDYD » Sun Jul 10, 2005 11:22 am

Hi Paul,

I have installed a strong "tow hitch" style front recovery point.
It can also be used for high-lift jacking point.
Another reason for this is I have a "mobile" 9000 Warn winch that can be move front or back of the vehicle, but stored inside when not in use.

So....no more ripping off the bush bars!!

Who is heading up Friday afternoon & who is heading up Saturday morning?

See you at the meeting next week, Vanier park?

Well that sounds like a good tow point Andy. So will you be bringing your winch :?: By the way I have worked out a deal with Donaldson Ropes in North Van, Amsteel Blue Synthetic winch rope at a wholesale price available to Rover Lander’s members :D . I’m going to talk to Dave B about getting it all officially posted etc.

I’ll be heading up late afternoon Friday not sure what time exactly trying to accommodate someone elses schedule.

Kris & Mark thanks for the offer regarding trailers & I’ll keep you posted, and that’s great you are both able to make it again. Up to 5 maybe 6 vehicles.

About 2 Km up the Blakeburn/Lodestone road from the Coalmont hotel. ON your left hand side, down by the river.

"Da Ja Hao" (How are you doing in Mandarin) !! Greeting from new member, Robin Li on Vancouver Island...

This Whipsaw run could be my very first expedition trip...catching first ferry on Saturday morning and meet you guys? Could somebody highlight me more details about this run?

TIA

From either Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay Ferry terminal you are looking at about 4.5 hours drive to the meeting point in Coalmont.

That means, even if you take the first ferry out of Duke Point at 5:15, which arrives in Tsawwassen at 7:20, you will still not get up there before noon, and I doubt anyone will still be in the camp by noon. Horseshoe Bay will take about a half hour longer, since it leaves Nanaimo later.

My suggestion would be to leave on Friday evening and camp somewhere along the way.

If by chance you arrive at the Copper Creek site in the dark then it is likely that you will miss the turn as it is very dark at that corner. Keep an eye on your odometer as the 9km milage given is a very accurate number an you should find yourself at the curve described exactly then.

Wes & John, Thank you for the direction and hint...

If I can make my way tonight, probably taking the last ferry and staying at Best Western in Princeton instead of setting up camp middle of the night...

So see you guys on the trail...

That sounds like s wise plan to me, cuz its about 40 minutes or less from Princeton to Coalmont in the morning.

Have a good trip. Wish I was coming along.
