Squamish Off-Road Run on Sunday 22nd June 2014
We have a one day Club run in the Squamish area this Sunday, RL member Shad has agreed to give us another tour of some trails new and improved from last year on his privately owned land near Squamish.
What - Berubies Squamish one day off-road Run
When - Sunday June 22nd, meeting at Squamish Tim Hortons at 9.00am for coffee, departing at 9.30am sharp
(note- there is more than one Tim Hortons in Squamish, we will be meeting at this one - 38930 Progress Way;
http://goo.gl/maps/bVGdO
Why - Explore new areas and get some good mountain air in your lungs!
What else - Bring a packed lunch or pick up lunch at Tim's in the morning. Expect some tight, technical fun trails, to be driven slowly and carefully.
We expect to be back on the Sea to Sky by 4pm.
Post up if you are coming out so we know to look out for you .....
Cheers,
Andy

Sounds like it's going to be a great weekend. It will be great to try out the truck in a more controlled environment and see what it can do. I will see you guys there.

Re: Squamish Off-Road Run on Sunday 22nd June 2014
This sounds interesting. Some questions:
1) Just how technical is this?
- Will I be OK if I just follow the people in front of me and don't do anything stupid?
2) Will be road tires be sufficient, or should I have dedicated off road tires?
3) What other gear is required? Winches, straps etc??
4) Will I be adding 'pin stripping' to the side of my vehicle?
- or any advice on how to protect paint?
5) Will anybody else be bringing kids along for the day?
- I have a 2 and 4yr old I would like to bring along
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
Here are the photos from last years visit
http://roverlanders.bc.ca/gallery/view_ ... e=album428
1. Not too technical, but lots of trees to watch out for. There will be spotters to help if you need in any tight spots
2. All terrain tires would be better, when you say road tires are they winter or summer tires?
3. Last year we didn't need any winches but a tug strap is always a good idea to have handy.
4. Last year it was a cut back, very little pin striping. Not 100% sure how it will be this year.
5. Should be fine for kids, the good thing is they are only short loops and you are always 5 mins from the highway so can you always bail out at any time.
You could come along and have a look, no pressure to do any of the loops if you are not comfortable.
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Squamish Off-Road Run on Sunday 22nd June 2014
Muchas gracias, senior Shad.
I'm in.
Mike, many folk have winches and other bits. Rather like the Marines, we try not to leave anyone behind. If you're reticent about a loop, just watch the others, see how it can be done, then decide whether you want to give it a go. Different folks have different tolerances in trail choice. The average 2014 Range Rover driver and the average 80s exMOD Defender driver might approach a potentially scratchy route differently. There's nothing wrong with that.

Hello Andy...I just took my defender off the road for a few months...do you think my Mitsubishi Pajero with snow tires do okay on this trip?

Two things come to mind: how wide is it compared to a Land Rover? We've had Land Cruisers and they're VERY capable, but sometimes find it difficult to squeeze between trees. Second, does a Pajero had some kind of diff lock or traction control? One (or both) of those would be helpful. You can always go as far as you and the car are comfortable.

Hi Pete,
Yes the MP should be fine, just take it easy and slow. There are only a few short loops (1hr each) then we will probably head up to the "Deck" look-out or over to Stavation Lake.
Cheers,
Andy

What a great day! Thanks for the organisation, and for all the spotters helping me get through the obstacles. Sorry we left early and did not have the chance to say 'cheers' to everybody.
Please pass on our thanks to the property owner and his buddy.
Looking forward to seeing some pics, and the next event.

Yes a fun play day for sure, I think we only covered 5kms but it took 5hrs to complete it!
Thanks to Shad and Darren for the trail prep and the spotting, only a couple of minor "bruises and scrapes".
The photos can never do it justice but here are some of my favorites.... (i have over 100 more which will be posted in the gallery over the next couple of days)...
Cheers,
Andy

Fantastic day! Thanks Shad, spotters and everyone! :D
It was terrifying at the time, but I'm immensely proud now, especially as the car was NOT converted into a pile of very expensive pieces!
