Placer Mountain - Ashnola Traverse July 19th and 20th
Hi All,
July 19th and 20th has long been marked on the calendar as the July club run, so I hope you have all kept it clear for the July event!
The route we are considering starts at Copper creek, just past Manning Park on highway 3, we then head up to beautiful Placer Lake, then on and up to over 6000ft to Placer Mountain. Next comes the "Red Road" of the Ashnola Traverse and follow the picturesque valley along the border Cathedral Park. The loop eventually takes us across to Hedley where we hope to explore some cool old abandoned mines on Sunday morning and then back along highway 3 home to Vancouver.
Ideally this is a two day run, with camping out midway along the way. For the more keen Copper creek is a good spot to head up to on Friday afternoon, camp out there and be fresh to go in the morning.
We could also arrange some meeting points for those who can only do one day or the other?
Post up and let us know if there is interest and we will fill in the rest of the details over the next day or two...
Cheers,
Andy

Man, I wish I could make this since it's in my backyard, but it's my parent's 50th anniversary that weekend.

Hi Bert,
Copper Creek is a turn off on the right approx 9km past the Eastgate border of Manning Park.
So basically head towards on Princeton on highway 3, drive through Manning Park, once you leave the east park border (there is a big sign there) you travel about another 9km and turn off to your right on a hair pin bend.
The campsite is down by the river, I will send you a PM with more exact camp site location details.
It looks like there will be a couple of us arriving on Friday evening and a couple more on Sat morning.
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Craig,
Copper Creek Campsite on Saturday morning, I have PM'd the directions to you in case you are a bit rusty. Call us on the VHF if you have trouble finding us. We are looking at a 10am (ish) departure, so maybe aim for 9.30am to give you a leg stretch and refreshments! Allow two hours from Whatcom Road.
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Placer Mountain - Ashnola Traverse July 19th and 20th
We lucked out on the weather, only a few sprinkles of rain, most of the time dry and sunny. We completed the loop from East of Manning Park to Hedley with some spectacluar sights along the way. Copper Creek to Placer Lake to Placer Mountain to Ashnola Traverse to Ashnola River to Hedley Mines. BC wilderness at its best ....
It was a good group of six Land rovers and lots of enthusiasm. I will post a bunch more photos into the gallery in the next few days.
See you on the next one,
Cheers, Andy
