Mid-Island Fall Rover Run Sunday October 5th
Hi Everyone
It's time for our first fall run. I am proposing we go out along Spruston Road (near the Nanaimo Airport) on a couple of routes I have scouted as well as time for some more exploring. From what I found it will be all "no-scratch", I will be taking me Range Rover (mostly stock) so any of our trucks should be able to make the trails. A couple of nice spots for lunch including spots that would be sheltered from the rain, everything doubles back so we'll come-out the way we went in. Meet at the Ladysmith Tim Hortons at 0900 with a 0930 departure time from there. Bring radios, a picnic lunch, cameras, maps, GPS and whatever other toys you desire. I have a couple of seats in the Range Rover if someone wants to tag along. J##ps, Yota$ and whatever else welcome to come along. Likely to find some kid-friendly areas as well. I'll bring a couple of garbage bags and maybe we can clean-up one of the campsites a little as a public service.
Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob
Marg and I will be there . Thanks for the offer of a ride we will take it.
Hi Ron the easiest way to the lady smith Tims is to turn west (uphill) at the transfer beach turn off, go up one block till you hit the first 4 way stop then turn right . This is Ladysmiths main street, go down the big hill through the traffic circle and Tims is on the right. There is extra parking behind the building.

Won't be able to make this date. It's Henry's 6th birthday that day. Treasure hunt and alien cupcakes for me.

Hi Guys
Is anyone else coming? The weather for the 5th is looking good so far. This might be our only fall Rover drive.

Oh and thanks Rob for burning up some petrol and pre-scouting the drive for us. Glad you did not get lost out there all by yourself.

If we depart at 9:30, what time would we return?

There's a couple of options for end times.... latest is probably close to 4PM but there would be the option to end around 2 if you want to shut down early. Most of the routes I've scouted are round trips and wind up back at a central point.
Hope to see you there,

Hi Louis
That would be great if you can come along the more rovers the better. We will depart at 9:30 am sharp from Tim Hortons in Ladysmith. Bring a full tank of petrol ( there is a petrol station beside the Tim Hortons that should be open?), lunch, lawn chairs, warm clothes, recovery gear shovels rope etc (but I do not think you will need any of this for this trip as it is a no scratch run.) If you have a CB or Ham Radio bring them, but most folks seem to use the little hand held family radios set on channel 4. Or you can just throw pine cones at the rover ahead of you to get their attention.
We should be back to pavement as Rob says by 4:00pm baring no problems with any vehicles.

Re: Mid-Island Fall Rover Run Sunday October 5th
Well, we should have called it the "Mid-Island Fall RANGE Rover run" :D We had a great day and 7 trucks came out for the adventure. 5, count em, 5 Range Rovers including 2 RRCs ( a classic 2 door survivor and a late model LWB with a skookum suspension lift and 300tdi conversion). 3 P38's (a 4.0, a 4.6 and an "Autobiography" to dispel the soccer mom mythology  ). A tidy Disco 2 and Greg's "Olive" D90 rounded-out the pack.... not a leafer to been seen other than on the trees. Started the day in the coal slag off of the loading terminal relic then out to Mackay Lake road followed by a nice trail down to the river and a climb up Spruston to the power lines. Sadly we got turned back by a downhill gate that was closed so we had to double-back but the weather was great, company was good and the trucks all behaved... most of the drivers and passengers fared equally as well. A bit of dust, a few narrow spots but no damage or break-downs and a chance to meet some new faces and welcome fellow rover owners out for a nice Sunday drive.
