November Club Run - Saturday 22nd November 2014
We are planning our November club run on Saturday 22nd November 2014,
What - One day off-road run into the mountains
When - Saturday 22nd November meeting at 9am at Tim Hortons in Squamish (38930 Progress Way);
http://goo.gl/maps/bVGdO
Where- The run is from Squamish down to the top of Indian Arm. Possibly up to Norton Lake if time allows.
What Else - This Forest Service Road has just recently been opened after being closed for many years. We haven't scouted this run so not sure quite what to expect until we get there. Possible over-grown sections could cause some BC pin striping. We are not expecting any really gnarly sections but you never know ... that what adventure is all about right!
Let us know if you are coming along. We will discuss more details at the Club meeting / gathering on Thur 20th Nov.
Cheers,
Andy

I would love to make this run. I will confirm after I have checked the calendar with the wifey. My 75 year old mother is visiting from Singapore. I may ask her to come along with her grand kids :)

Sorry, it looks like I will not be able to make it. One son has a concert performance and another has a soccer game.... plus the mother-in-law is also in town.

I'm in. That's assuming I can get the Disco to wake up after its long rest. :D It sounds like fun.

Was there for an overnight 18 months ago- the road was de-activated then- I assume it is back? The trail to Norton Lake was a real mess branch wise. The main road to the Arm was no problem.. We went for a swim in the lake and there was an old float we took for a paddle. I have no recent knowledge. The scenery was excellent and well worth going. Send something wide like a P38 first! lol

Re: November Club Run - Saturday 22nd November 2014
Is it back out the same way, or is there a way out at the south end?
Me and the better half are considering coming along if my fuel tank is still OK - has a top leak and the retainer lugs for the fuel gauge/suction are going, as I discovered when replacing the gauge at the weekend...fitting a new tank is rapidly rising up this winter's list.
It was OK on a run out on Sunday, so may stick below 45L in the tank (which seems to be the 'safe' level and bring the rest in gerry cans!

Just heard a guy was up there 2 weeks ago- no road report but the gendarmes with the yellow stripes on their trousers were searching for firearms/licences at the gate...

Thanks for the road updates, I was also chatting to one of our members who went in a couple of weeks ago and gathered some good road information.
Yes, one way in and the same way out, no access from the south unless you have a boat!
Looks like the forecast is a mix of sun and cloud, definitely warmer than last week, hope to see you all out there!
Cheers,
Andy

Well...I guess I will be spending Saturday trying to make mine 'go' again, after her little trip home on a BCAA flat deck last night...
Maybe next time!

Too bad your Imobilizer "Imobilized" at the wrong time, seems like a good thing to disarm, you don't want that happening up in the mountains!Well...I guess I will be spending Saturday trying to make mine 'go' again, after her little trip home on a BCAA flat deck last night...
OK, a quick note - meeting at Squamish Tim Hortons Saturday at 9am (note- there is more than one Tim Hortons in Squamish, we will be meeting at this one - 38930 Progress Way;
http://goo.gl/maps/bVGdO
Be ready to depart at 9.30am. Depending on what forecast you look at, we could still get some sunny breaks on Saturday!
Cheers, Andy

Re: November Club Run - Saturday 22nd November 2014
Post trip report ....
Apart from a quick morning shower the sun came out and shone down on us for most of the day for our Indian Arm / Norton Lake trip.
Nine trucks gathered under the Squamish Chief and made our way south down towards the top of Indian Arm. The gravel road was fairly smooth but with lots of cross ditches. The rivers were running full & fast with lots of white water after all the rain of previous days.
We had lunch at the northern tip of the Indian Arm looking across at the isolated Wigwam Lodge. Bald eagles were flying over head and we soaked the warm November sun up for half an hour admiring the vista.
Next we climbed up to Norton Lake which was loose, steep and quite over-grown. There were a few big dips and wash outs to entertain us along the way but all very drivable in 4x4. When at Norton Lake we admired the still and calm of this beautiful lake nestled high in the mountains with nothing but mountains and forest all around.
A great opportunity to enjoy beautiful BC in sunny November, thanks to all that came out and shared the enjoyment,
More photos coming soon in the Gallery ...
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Alex,
Not sure when we will next be down that way. We do generally get out on club runs at least once a month. Keep an eye on the "Events" section for upcoming off road adventures....
Cheers,
Andy
