2005 Northwest Challenge
Come one, come all. Dare to tread on the wild side with plenty of stunning vistas and up close and personal Evergreen woodlands. This years NWC will take place October 7th - 9th in beautiful Washington. Festivities will begin at 8pm on Friday the 7th at an undisclosed location. Starting destination will be released post Portland All British Field Meet. The 2005 NWC will include camping, Saturday night dinner, specific tasks, fun competition, prizes, multi-point turns, off-camber climbs, and of course plenty of articulation. Event is planned to conclude by Noon on Sunday the 9th. As usual this event will test your driving skills, thinking skills, and your trucks capabilities. 100" wheel-base or shorter recommended but not required. Note: Some of the travels have a high degree of difficulty that could result in body damage. Contact Matt Mills at [email protected] or (509) 308-9575; or Eric Roberts at [email protected] for registration. Information for registration: Driver's name, email address, phone number, postal address, co-pilot's name and truck to be driven. $25 entry fee post registration. Volunteers needed to help with task competitions, camping and fun (minimal risk to body damage, maximum fun factor).
Thanks
Matt Mills
Thanks

Greg IS!
But I am without a truck so I would have to beg for a navigators seat again. Is there anyone out there that isn't going to break a diff that might want an award winning navigator? (I won a spelling award in grade 3.)
Of course I would have to check the calendar at home and get the appropriate wifely permissiion first.

Like I said, I'm interested but I am not able to go. Even if it is with someone who isn't likely to break a diff. All teasing aside, I had a great time last year and would love to go but when I asked my wife, she reminded me of previous commitments I have that weekend.
I'm sure everyone will have a good time and I expect good pictures and a story, as always.

More Details
All,
I've attached the following link:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/cle-e ... index.html
This should provide you additional information to "The Rider's Campground" where the 2005 NWC will begin at 8pm. There are several directions located on the Web site but I recommend using the following directions for access to fuel and food:
Heading East or West on I-90 to Ellensburg WA;
take the Canyon Road Exit (exit 109) and head North on Canyon Road.
Turn left onto Umptanum/Damman Rd (Stop-light with Subway on left, McDonalds on right)
Travel approximately 2-3 miles to the small Damman school house on right;
At Damman School house turn right onto Manastash 3100 Rd;
Travel approximately 15 miles into Manastash Canyon
Road turns to gravel, travel approximately 9 more miles on Manastash 3100 Rd to Riders Campground on the right.
Look for Rovers, CB channel 6...
note: Canyon road has a Super 1 grocery store located further north into Ellensburg
The Web site also provides maps of the surrounding areas. On the Maps page locate the West Side of Cle Elum Ranger District maps, specifically the SE corner that has the blow up of the Buck Meadows area. This section map and the section map directly west (middle bottom map) will come in handy.
We will be checking in trucks beginning at 7pm until every one arrives. Trucks should be equipped with the following:
Working lights- front & rear
Capable emergency/parking brake
Recovery points- front and rear
GPS
Recovery equipment (chain, tree strap, shovel, etc...)
Insurance/Registration (not for me but Rangers in the area)
Proper safety equipment (seat belts for both driver and co-pilot)
Medicine kit
Fire extinguisher
Enough tools and parts/pieces to be "Macgyver"
Spare tire (with air)
CB (optional but recommended)
Winch (optional)
Extra fuel
Pencil and paper
A few details:
Plan on camping in the same site both nights. Saturday night dinner will be provided. NWC begins with a task and then moves into a two truck team night extravaganza. Rest to follow. Couple more details:
Plan on packing water in and a shovel for the "do-it-yourselfer" toilet. In addition, I recommend having extra fuel along. Plan on running for 2-3 hours Friday night (some in low range); the better part of Saturday in low range; most of Sunday morning in low range. The only opportunity for fuel will be back in Ellensburg. I plan to have extra fuel at camp--selling to the highest bidder... ;^) Don't hesitate to call if any more questions arise.
Two more confirmed participants, #10 and 11
