Club Run - May 23rd -24th Kookipi Creek
Hi Rover-Landers,
Taking advantage of the lack of snow this year we are planning a weekend run starting at Boston Bar / Nahatlatch Lake area and running down the Kookipi Creek Gorge to the top of east Harrison Lake and down to Harrison Hot Springs and home. Lots of interesting stops along the way.
Camping out along the Kookipi creek or at the top of Harrison Lake depending on our progress. Although its off-road all the way from Boston Bar to Harrison, we shouldn't come across anything too challenging and this is a good run for all types of Land Rovers new and old.
We will visit the Nahatlatch Fire Lookout at 6000ft which was recently rebuilt be the 4x4 community.
Make sure to let us know if you are coming along...
Cheers,
Andy
What - Two day run starting at Boston Bar / Nahatlatch Lake area.
When - May 23rd and 24th 2015.
Why - Mountain adventure into the beautiful BC wilderness
What else - Meeting at Whatcom Road Tim Hortons (off highway #1) Saturday at 9am or at the Fas-Gas station in Boston Bar at 11.00am.
Bring along everything you need for two days, pick up lunch at Tim's in the morning.

99% sure I'm in with the kids. Where do you expect we'll be camping? I need to be able to get the kids back to Vancouver by 1pm so could use easy access to a hwy from the campsite.

I'm not completely sure but I don't think we'll be camping anywhere near a highway Saturday night.
At least I hope not!
You should phone Andy and check.

Hi Alex,
Unfortunately the campsite is halfway through the loop which doesnt make it very close to a highway. But...on saying that, it is a straight run down the east side of Harrison Lake to Harrison Hot Springs. So if you packed up and left the campsite at 8am you would be back on highway #1 by noon and Vancouver by 1pm.
Its a fairly simple straight run from the campsite, but I can photo-copy the map page and mark the route for you if that helps,
Cheers,
Andy

Okay my usual question... If I fill the tank up prior to the trip (actually do it this time) will I be okay for gas? I'm trying to figure out how to mount some extra fuel cans....

I think I'd better come along to lower the average vehicle age. Possibly with a one or both twins. Uncertain if we will head to BB tomorrow or meet at Whatcom but will chime in as soon as I know....... :D

Good to see we have a nice group building!
Hi Mark, the last chance for fuel is the Fas-Gas in Boston Bar, the next one after that is in Harrison Hot Springs. With a couple of small off-shoots to points of interest along the way, you can expect us to cover approx. 180kms off-road between these two points.
Not too sure if the Fas-Gas does premium gas or not? (if you need premium gas?) and never hurts to tie a spare can onto the roof rack.
cheers,
Andy

Re: Club Run - May 23rd -24th Kookipi Creek
So I spent all day today getting ready for the trip... Food, equipment, packing etc... I bought some smaller fuel containers to stick on my rack and was heading home when I stopped in a gas station to fuel up. I got back in and the transmission wouldn't come out of park.
Having had this happen before, I simply shorted the brake switch wires and off I went home. At home I started fiddling with the switch (which previously did the same thing when it was replaced and it was out of adjustment - I replaced my booster recently so I thought it was the same issue when they put the switch back in)... Now the truck won't turn over at all...
Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make this one after all... Now I have to deal with a couple of crying kids (literally) after breaking the news to them... Guess we will be camping out in the back yard as a consolation.
Have fun... Wish we were there.

That's too bad! Sounds like a weak spot that needs to be modified for the future?
Thanks for letting us know....

Great trip Andy... and it looks like we found who was responsible for the big mess at the campsite; Earl Marriott High School!

Post Trip Report
Seven Land Rovers gathered together in Boston Bar on a warm Saturday morning, the plan was a 2 day run from Boston Bar to Harrison Hot Springs, all off-road through the Kookipi Creek Valley with a couple of stops along the way at points of Interest.
The trip went well and the weather was great and apart from a couple of mishaps along the way :blackeye: everything went according to plan. No trace of snow on the road and we rolled into Harrison Hot Springs around 2pm on Sunday. A more detailed report can be found in the next issue of the Rover-Landers newsletter.
Some more photos in the Gallery....
