Re: The 13th Annual Cowichan Rally-In-The-Valley event
The Cowichan Valley Land Rover Rally will go ahead but not as planned. We cut back a couple years ago and I'm going to have to cut back a bit more this year. My main helper has been in an accident and can't supervise me like she used to so she can't make sure I get everything done on time. Erica came off her horse at high speed onto the paved road. Thank heavens for safety gear or the outcome may have been different!
I have been keeping the field mowed and can keep it in reasonable shape for the weekend of June 13, 14 as planned. The drive is dependent on roads being open or closed due to fire season, possibly early this year. I have less time to scout alternate routes but have one or two in mind, the drive might be the "scouting" trip. LOL
I won't be able to put on the breakfast like in the last few years, unless it can be a group effort or at a restaurant as in some other years.
Anyone able to arrive Friday is welcome to stay in the field through the weekend.

Hi Greg,
Sorry to hear about Erica glad she's ok. I can come up some time over the next few weeks to help prep for the ralley if that would help? You guys always put so much effort into this event I would like to return the kindness. Also, I can make a mean breakfast on a BBQ if one is available Sunday morning! Might need help from Chris (Mr muddy)

BBQ will be ready. I have been borrowing electric griddle to. I'll borrow a couple again.
I was thinking it might just be easier to set everything up and have the dinner up at the house, same as the breakfast.

Greg,
See you Friday if that's OK. Sent a PM but we seem to be having issues.
We all hope Erica is feeling better by now.
Regards, Eric & Sue.

Hi Everyone
Only 5 days to go.
We are still planning to do a drive Saturday morning but not sure yet where exactly we are going and it just might turn into a paved road drive if the forest roads get closed down due to the high fire hazard rating on the Island. At this time it could go either way, just have to wait and see.
So who all is coming? Let us know if you can.
I talked with a couple from France in Duncan yesterday who have already toured South America, the United States and are now on the Island and may show up for the 13th Van Isle Land Rover Rally. They are driving a white Defender 130 TD-5 custom camper a very nice unit. They will probablly win the long distance travel award.
See you Saturday morning bright and early with a full tank of petrol, a picnic lunch for the drive, beverages, a radio if you have one either CB, family stlye hand held or Ham radio, and lastly and most importantly do not forget to bring something tasty for the Pot luck dinner Saturday evening.

Hi Everyone
Now only 4 days to go.
Thanks for letting us know whos coming. Still no news if the roads are going to be open but they have not banned camp fires yet so thats a good sign.
For those of of you who are arriving Friday the choice camping spots down by the big grey hot tub should still be available.

Well looks like all gates will be closed this weekend. Maybe we just do a pub crawl instead?!

Campfire ban too. Does anybody have a "campfire in a can" they could bring. A propane campfire is better than none.

Hi Everyone
I guess we will have to figure out a differant kind of drive for Saturday. I think Greg does have an interesting alternative in mind.
Greg and I were busy this afternoon getting everything set up. The camping field is in great shape (maybe the best ever) with the exception of the hot tub which has not been delivered yet.
Greg is again doing the traditional Sunday breakfast up at the house, sausage, eggs and pancakes. If any one can whip up and bring some home made muffins that would be great. Breakfast will be ready at 8:30 so dont be late.
See you Saturday for the drive.

Well seeing how we can't get into the woods I've managed to find a little track for us to play on instead. Check out the test run here:
I know it's a utv but out trucks should be fine....... :blackeye:

Re: The 13th Annual Cowichan Rally-In-The-Valley event
Really enjoyed the weekend, great turn out, beautiful weather. The field was perfectly manicured for camping and the camp fire burned brightly.
BIG thank you to Greg and the Island Rover-Landers for hosting us for the 13th Island Rally.
The Saturday run had some awesome stops along the way and a great group of participants...
Thanks for all your hard work with putting on the Event, lots of great photos, coming soon.
Cheers,
Andy
