300tdi auto kick down cable placement
So I've installed a 300tdi and auto box in to a friends V8 RRC. He imported the engine and gearbox from somewhere in the UK, and I'm not so sure that they were from the same vehicle. Everything went great so far swapping the new engine in until it comes to the knockdown cable. There is a place on the pump linkage for the throttle cable, and there is some weird double spring thing connected to the linkage as well. No spot for the kick down cable that I can figure out. I looked around on the Internet for pictures but nothing was really clear and most showed a diafram thing which I don't have. The pump linkage is way more complex compared to my 300tdi which has a r380 gearbox. If anyone has some advice, pictures or even an explanation it would be appreciated!
Thanks
Pat

I've attached the adjustment page from the workshop manual. Hope that helps.

Thanks Red, you are always a wealth of information! I think I must be missing the bracket where the kick down mounts to, judging by the pictures. At least I know where it goes now. I will fab up something to get it fitted correctly.
thanks again,

Hey Red, may be you can answer some more questions. I've noticed in some pictures that some kick down cables hook up to a diaphram thingy which is mounted to the inner fender. I would imagine that may not be correct for a diesel since there is no vacuum. I guess those pictures were for a gas engine. I only have a spot on the linkage for two cables, one for throttle cable and the other has this double spring on a shaft, which I belive is for a return spring mechanism of some sort. I wish I took a picture of it before writing this!.
Thanks,
Pat

No real idea. I've never owned an automatic car. Diesels do have vacuum, via a pump. That is how the power brakes work. Most vacuum pots I've seen around the throttles are are for cruise control.
There are pictures of the transmission end of the kickdown cable in the workshop manual.

Thanks Red. I'm not a fan of the Automatics either, this is kind of uncharted waters for me as I've always had manuals too. Buddies truck so that is what he wants. I don't have the diapham thing, just seen pictures of them - wasn't sure that I needed it or not. Vacuum pump has been tossed as he still has the ABS and it actually still works! Thanks again for your help.
