How to drain water from the door latch well?

#1 Post by markmascotto » Sat Oct 03, 2015 8:40 pm

I've recently replaced the rear door on my 110 Hard Top and notice that there is no way for water to drain out of the deep latch well. Does anyone have a solution to get rid of rainwater and avoid rust?

What do you mean by "deep latch well"?

The recessed "well" around the door latch.

Maybe you could provide a picture. I don't quite see what is the problem on mine. The door skin aligns with the bottom of the frame of the latch well. Yours might be a different version though.

The biggest problem I see with all these doors is the aluminum and steel touch and then they both corrode away. If you want a long lasting door, you can get ones that are all galvanized steel. http://www.sp-4x4.com/DEFENDER_GALVANIS ... -steel.htm

Here is a picture of the door and recessed latch. You can see the start of the rust at the bottom of the well area.

Hard to see but the skin looks mounted a bit high. Rust there is common as it is hard to paint in there.
