2.25 ignition coil

#1 Post by tony » Fri Apr 15, 2016 5:34 pm

I remember so little of my 2.25 days, can anyone tell me if the 2.25 ignition coil gets too hot to touch after say 15 KM? and if it shouldn't then why would it?

It should not. Assuming you have the correct coil, check it per the manual as a first thing. Not sure what else would cause it to overheat assuming it is still running fine.
Primary resistance at 20°C (68°F) .... .3.0 to 3.5 ohms

Could the wrong spark plug be the problem? Lordco sold me NGK BPR6ES 7131, what should it be if not this one.
Which terminals do you check resistance on Red90?

I can't see how the spark plugs would matter. Across the two terminals to check the primary resistance. One is 12V supply at the other goes to the distributor. Perhaps you have an old low voltage coil with a missing ballast resistor. Old coils were not meant for 12V and have a resistor inline to drop the voltage.

I'm also "assuming" that it is stock parts? Not an aftermarket distributor or coil? What vehicle is this in?

Why so many different spark plugs for basically the same engine ?

Looks like the ones I have are right for a series IIa, but then my engine is a mix n match of best parts on hand so which plugs are then the correct ones

Duecillier distributor, Lordco coil with internal ballast resistor since my Britpart one fried in about 100km, new coil gets hot as well.
