Portland All British Field Meet

#1 Post by island dormy » Mon Aug 08, 2016 8:09 pm

This is a great show 3 fun filled days of none stop action. Including a Land rover Jungle ride on the Motor- cross track, historic car racing featuring Jaguar E-types, old Corvettes and usually some full blown race cars, they put on a great dinner Saturday night and it is also Land rovers year to be centre stage. Which means there could be up to 150-200 Land rovers showing up.

So is anybody from the Island interested in heading down a couple of days early and maybe camping along the Oregon coast on the way to the show?

Victor,
I'm definitely interested.
Whats your plan? Taking the Coho ferry from Victoria and following the 101 hwy south?
Are you staying in a hotel in Portland, which one?
I'm looking at driving down and then possibly flying my wife in for the weekend, then a straight drive back to the ferry for the two of us on Monday morning.
Let me know your agenda, [email protected] is my email address.
cheers

Sue and I will probably be going.
One of the nice things about Portland Raceway is their low key and accommodating attitude. Camping spots are good and no one was bothered when we stayed over an extra night: and to our surprise the classic bike racing was on the day after the ABFM.

Hi Bruce

The Best Western is the one we will probably stay at $397 for 3 nights all taxes in.. They give deals for the British car show, just mention you are in the Victoria mg club they do not seem to care if you are or are not. The days inn also gives deals for the car show. Both are across the street and offer car washing etc. for the show. We do have a hotel booked but I would much rather camp at the field it is a great spot under the trees, we will see.
That $530 deal is really good if the Oxford suites is near the car show area.

The airport is about 2 miles from the race track if your wife would rather fly down in comfort.

The Saturday night dinner is great but it does fill up so it might be a good idea to book dinner ahead of time.

The Coho fairy is the way to go very relaxing then just follow the coast road lots of interesting sights and you can also drive on long beach for 14 miles.

Hey Eric I guess you guys will be official Islanders by then so that might make a nice trip down for all of us.

Talk with you later. Victor

Victor,
I registered last night so I'm going for sure! Going to book my wife on a Friday night flight today.
Whats the camping setup on the track? Are they access to washrooms/showers?
When were you thinking of crossing?
cheers

Re Camping:
Tents are off to the side of the car display, with the track behind. Mostly shaded by trees.
Plenty of regularly maintained porta-loos, plus a toilet block, but no showers.

Bruce,
Sorry for taking a while to reply but moving to our new place has taken up some time.
We are booked on the Thursday 12 Noon Sidney/Anacortes ferry. Not sure where we will camp Thursday night yet.
Eric & Sue.

Eric/Sue,
Looks like Victor isn't going to make it...
I'm crossing Wednesday afternoon and camping in Port Angeles on Wednesday night and working my way down the 101 on Thursday.
Hoping to drive/camp in the long beach area Thursday night.
Let me know were you end up, if its close I'd be happy to meet for a drink!

I'll be carry my work cell, [email protected] and 250-507-5671
cheers
