Just picked up a 96 Discovery 1. Driving it home, the serpentine belt seemed to be making a noise. Had a look at it today and found it seems to be the water pump. With the belt off, I can move the pulley around. Any recommendations best/quickest place to get a replacement? Any brand better/worse than others? Any tips when changing or pretty straight forward? Already dl the Rave manual.
I'm on the sunshine coast.
Thanks
Don

If you need parts I've got a 95 disco that I picked up for parts. Willing to sell any bits and bobs that I don't need

Both Rovalution and Hesp should have them in stock in North Van. You can likely get an All-Makes brand from Napa or Lordco.
The genuine parts are likely 3 times that of a copy part but probably a good investment as loss of coolant and over-heating is the most common killer of the Discovery engines.
As for tips, you will likely require a special flat wrench to get the fan blade off, good idea to change all your belts while you have it apart. Make sure you clean all the old water pump gasket off very well (this task will likely be the longest part of the job). May as well flush all the old coolant out and put in new coolant (so you know it has the correct mixture before winter arrives).
Have fun

Re: D1 Water pump
Its an easy job. Just did it last weekend on my D2. I got a cheap amazon or ebay. The ford fan nut wrench 36mm works perfectly. Be careful running the pump bolts back in. At least one goes into the jacket and mine was pretty cruddy so i ran ut in and out a few times.
Do your fan clutch at the same time for the sake of another 60 bucks!

Thanks all. Got the replacement and have everything apart and cleaned up ready to go back together. Have a couple more questions though.
Been researching coolant to use and seems like it needs the XLC? What brands is this sold as or is there a compatible one; dex-cool?
The coolant that currently was in the disco is the green glycol kind. How good of a flush should it do to clean it out? I read mixing it can cause problems but is trace amounts ok? What'st the best flush procedure or check the Rave?
What's the best sealant to use on the bolts into the water jacket? Would the blue loctite RTV gasket maker do the trick?
Cheers

Re: D1 Water pump
So upon much more reading, sounds like I should avoid the Dex-cool at all costs and just use the green coolant.
