1993 rrc lwb
soooo. i have been having a very discouraging time getting the 4.2 litre v8 running properly. and ive had two mechanics give up and tell me they dont know whats wrong/cant fix it. anyway i stried starting it up and now it wont turn over and the auxillary setting wont even engage when i turn the key. no lights in the dash no fuel pump coming on no nothing. the battery is good. so i thaught maybe the keyswicht had failed so i tore out the dash and tried to jump out the keyswitch which i have done before with success but that also does absolutely nothing. so now i have a big heavy truck stuck in the middle of my driveway blocking access for the rest of my cars and i cant even get it into neutral as it wont turn on..... any thaughts? i have poored so much money into this thing trying to make it run and nothing has worked! and now its dead. god dam

Well it's a bit over my head as far as what's actually wrong, but to get it to roll so you can move it out of the way, just disconnect your drive shafts.

Or put the transfer case in neutral.

As far as the power issue you will need to hunt down the issue with a meter. Possibly a main fuse but you would need to start by looking at a wiring schematic.

Hey Dixon, Best solution is to toss the v8 electrical nightmare and stuff a 300tdi in! Not a quick solution mind you!
Its been a while since I had a B/W transfer case, but I think what Red said may work for you. Nothing should electrically stop the transfer from neutral position. Only other options are fix it or bypass the neutral safety switch. I have a set of dollies you can put under the wheels if you are in a pinch - I will be down in Victoria tonight so I could drop them off.
Thanks,
Pat

I have a disco lt230 transfer case in the old girl. I got it from you, pat as a matter of fact. Works great. But I don't think it can be put in neutral unless the transmission is in neutral.... maybe? Not sure it seems to be stuck in high tho. What's this neutral safety switch you speak of?

There is a round thing with a square flange with wires sticking out of it on the top of the rear output housing. Apply power to that in order to release the lock or remove the four bolts, lift the cover, remove solenoid and throw in garbage, put cover back on. Shift at your pleasure.dixono wrote:I have a disco lt230 transfer case in the old girl. I got it from you, pat as a matter of fact. Works great. If you do as Red90 suggests you can get the LT230 into neutral not the main box but this fine to move it around. I don't remember the ZF in my 87 RRC having to have power to shift it out of park now that I think of it. My current 93 RRC does not need it but it has the LT77 and I've also done the LT230 mod to remove the shift lockout.

Funny, my LT230 pops in to neutral all the time when I don't want it to!

Yep I have an lt77 in my 74 rrc it certainly can be shifted into neutral whenever.
My lt230 in my 93 also pops into neutral randomly but only when it is running. So I might try to take that solenoid off the top of the transfer case although I'd imagine it will be difficult to do when it is in the truck
