Double (de) clutching

#1 Post by DrRangelove » Mon Jul 03, 2017 6:42 pm

Soooo, learning to drive the dashbox on my 2a has been going ok as long as im moving up the gears - I seem to have mastered the pause between 1st and 2nd gear to allow the gears to match speed.
Downshifting from 3rd to 2nd has been more if a challenge... anyone have any tips? How much gas do hou need to give it to avoid the crunch?

You'll get it. I've driven my 2a twice and I figured it out. For the first little while I would apply light pressure on the gear leaver as if I were to slot into 2nd from 3rd, and you'll feel 'the gap' as they line up whilst holding the clutch in. You'll feel the gears line up and then you can complete the gear change... Clear as mud?

Kind of... it sounds like you have to feel it rather than think about it too much, but it's a bit nerve racking when you crunch those gears!

You're giving it a blip of gas while the clutch is in going form 3rd to 2nd right?

My granddad is rolling in his grave right now

There's no easy way to explain how to double de clutch, but I'll give it a go. In my truck I just blip the gas between the gear change, not when the clutch is down but when the box is in neutral, then clutch down and slip into second slowly you can't rush your tractor too much! It will also help if the gearbox is warmed up nicely. Good to hear the gearbox works though! :D
