Blowdown Pass 1-2-3 Adventure - Sat 29th July 2017
Blowdown Pass 1-2-3 Off-Road Adventure – near Duffey Lake - Saturday 29th July 2017
The reason we are calling this Blowdown 1-2-3 is you have the option of making this a 1 day, 2 day or 3 day adventure.
Day 1 - Saturday 29th July
09:30am – Meet at Squamish Tim Horton’s on Progress Way, Squamish. (there are two Tim Horton’s in Squamish to make note this is the one on Progress Way- cross street Industrial Way, beside H-way 99).
10:00am sharp – Departing Squamish, heading north up the Sea to Sky highway through Whistler Village and onto Pemberton for approx. 11:00am, we will have a short stop at the Petro Canada Gas station in Pemberton. (last chance for fuel or supplies). We should be reaching the Blowdown Pass Saddle (6500ft) around 2pm.
Those opting for the 1 day trip should depart the saddle by 4pm and head back to the highway. They will be back in Squamish by 8pm. Those remaining will camp out in the Blowdown Pass valley.
Day 2 - Sunday 30th July
Lazy breakfast, options for a short hike into Stein Heritage Park (flat and scenic), or a climb up to the top of Gotcha Peak (1k hike straight upwards), or a hike down the alpine valley to Blowdown Lake (1k hike downwards) or pull up a chair and enjoy a scenic lazy day in camp.
After lunch departing Blowdown Valley back to Duffey Lake (h-way 99). Those opting for the 2 day trip can head back down the highway and back to the Lower Mainland by 6pm (ish).
Those remaining will be heading up Van-Horlick Valley to explore, our camp will be at the end of the road where it borders into the Stein Valley.
Day 3 - Monday 31st July
After another lazy morning enjoying the mountain air and scenic vista, we'll be heading out of the valley back to Duffey Lake around lunch time and the heading for home.
A reminder for all that this is remote back-country wilderness, there are no amenity’s once we leave Pemberton so everything that is needed for the trip should be brought along. There is a possibility of some pockets of snow so bring a shovel and the typical recovery gear. Those with a chainsaw, bring it along, that way at least one of them should work (if / when needed)
Some other suggestions – Camera / Sunglasses / Binoculars / Folding Chair / Warm Jacket / lots Drinking Water / Good walking shoes (no flip-flops) / bug spray / sun screen / extra food! (and most important ...a roll of biogradable TP  )
There is a campfire ban so we will bring along the propane camp fire pit.
Let us know in advance if you are coming along and if you are planning on 1, 2 or 3.....
Cheers,
Andy

I'll be there with a friend of mine. I'm heading over on Friday and plan on staying for all three days. Which ferry are you catching Eric?
Andy, how many kilometres of driving will we be doing before we see another gas station?

Hey Colin,
Good to hear your be joining us. If you fill up at the last gas station in Pemberton, that will be easily enough fuel to get you back to Pemberton,
cheers,
Andy

What great three days. Thanks to the club leaders for organizing and leading the runs. Here are the Relive simulations of our runs for each day. Relive takes Garmin tracks and converts them into 3D visualizations. . Enjoy! :)
DAY ONE
Please note: my Garmin device stopped tracking just short of day's run at the Saddle below Gotcha Point.

Re: Blowdown Pass 1-2-3 Adventure - Sat 29th July 2017
Beautiful Weekend of fun and adventure. We had 10 trucks come along, 5 did the 3 days, 4 did the 2 days and 1 came just for the 1 day. We had to clear a large log slide off the road, but many hands made light work and we soon had enough cleared to squeeze the Land Rovers through. Camp was set in the saddle at 6500ft and the cool breeze kept the temperature down.
Here are a couple of photos, I will put the rest in the Gallery in the next couple of days. If you have some you would like to share, send them in to roverlanders AT shaw.ca
cheers, Andy

Re: Blowdown Pass 1-2-3 Adventure - Sat 29th July 2017
Grrrrrr. I'm piss'd I missed it. I even took the time to mount my winch on the bloody truck last week.
I had my D1 all loaded up Frid night and got me and the dog in the truck and on our way by 7:30 Sat morning. She was cruising along just fine - - - until I got to the hill on Hwy 1 going up by Lynn Valley, when the battery light came on and tach quit. I pulled off at the Lynn Valley exit and popped the hood. Everything looked fine, checked every fuse in both boxes, all good. Damn. Thought I'd take a chance and pop by Rovalution - only to find out they are closed Sat. Same with Hesp. So I headed back home. Almost made it and would have if I hadn't done the Rovalution detour. Had to wait 1.5hr for CAA to tow me the few miles back home.
Popped the alternator and took it to an auto electric shop who were going to test it and told me to come back after lunch. At 1pm I found out the alt really was toast (needed a new rotor that wasn't in stock), so I ordered a rebuilt one a few doors down at Burnaby Auto Parts (great prices, so so service). Unfortunately it didn't show up before closing. Got it Monday morning. Ten min later it was in the truck and she was running fine. And to top it all off, I came down with a summer flu Sunday morning. Typical.
Guess I'm just lucky she didn't quit on me out where you took the pics, or I'd still be there.
Ah well, when's the next run? :bounce:

Well my first overnight outing was a success. The truck made it home in one piece and I'll be getting a new pump soon.
When can we do it again?

Swapped the pump out this evening and gave the rad a good flush. The sound has thankfully disappeared...
