End of Year Run October 14-15
The "End of Year Run" will be Oct 14-15 and will head to "Cabin Lake".
We will meet at Whatcom road Saturday Oct 14 at 0930 and be on the road by 1000am.
There is fuel and fast food available there.
The club will provide dinner Saturday evening for members and their family.
Post up if you are coming so we know the number meals needed.
Bring food for your lunches and breakfasts.
As usual, make sure you have fuel, food, warm clothes and all the gear you'd need for a fall adventure in our lovely Province. As we know, the weather may change for the worst so be prepared.
Chris.

Beautiful spot for the final end-of-year camp out! Hey Shawn, what's on the menu this year???
Hope to see a good club turn out, you can put your camping gear away after this one!
Bring an extra blanket or two... gets cold up there at night (a BIG fire will also help)...
Cheers,
Andy

I am looking forward to the run. I live in Chilliwack. Can I meet the caravan in Chilliwack off Hwy 1 instead of meeting the group at Whatcom Road (i.e., opposite direction)?

Yeh, yeh ... you just want an extra 30mins in bed Andrew lol ...
No worries. I will give you a call as we are departing Whatcom Rd. and we will pick you up in the normal spot on Hway 1

Thanks Andy! 30 mins less driving means less oil leaking all over Hwy 1 :DANDYD wrote:Yeh, yeh ... you just want an extra 30mins in bed Andrew lol ...

You should be fine. That is as long as you aren't worried about a few experience marks from bushes and twigs..... :bounce:rgallant wrote:Hello all new guy with a new to me Discovery II, functionally stock other than the tires. Would be it capable of the making the trip ?

O'Doul and I will be coming along with the food . We will be having fresh buns and Chili and a tray of cheese and meats and apple crisp with whipped cream for desert . Since we only have five people it should be easy to put on. Weather conditions should be assumed to be quite severe ,wind snow and cold. Sounds great!

Re: End of Year Run October 14-15
Hey, good to see some interest building, a decent group so far...
A few more details, on Saturday morning we will be departing Whatcom Rd heading up past Hope on highway #5 to the Murray Lakes turn off. It is all Off-road from there, nothing too hard for a Land Rover! Hopefully arriving at Cabin Lake around 3pm. A tasty dinner around a large camp fire on Saturday night. Sunday morning around 10am we will pack up and continue our loop bringing us out at Boston Bar on highway #1 around 2pm, back to Vancouver around 4pm.
I have been asked if it can be a 1 day trip for those who can't stay overnight. The answer is yes, but it would be a long day of driving. If doing a one day trip you would likely get to the lake around 3pm and need to leave by 4pm to get back on the highway before dark. I would recommend going back to the highway 5 ( the way we came in) as that would be more familiar to you.
The weather is showing a mix of sun and clouds right now (nearest weather station is Boston Bar) but keep in mind this is a higher elevation lake (5000ft) so it will be colder at night ( possibly below zero)
Cheers,
Andy

I'm in! :D :D :D
I put the Disco on charged this morning in preparation.
Beautiful spot and Shawn always does us proud. I agree with Andy - bundle up! It's been cold once the sun goes down (and possibly before the sun goes down!).
Sorry to take so long to reply. Life's been busy.

I will be waiting for you guys between exit #120 and #123 off Hwy 1.... just after you pass through Chilliwack and on the stretch parallel to the Chilliwack Airport.

Oliver (woof woof) and I are all packed up and ready to roll.
Hey Shawn, I think I'm counting 7 vehicles. Probably a bit more than 5 people. No?
See you at Timmies!

Re: End of Year Run October 14-15
Great turn out, a total of 10 trucks attended the End of Season run up to Cabin Lake. There was just enough snow to make it interesting but not enough to prevent us completing our journey to the lake. The weather was dry and warmer than expected, the lake was almost frozen over. With the forecasted snow this upcoming week, we will likely be the last vehicle access to the lake until next summer.
Shawn did an excellent job of putting on the tasty club dinner, O'Doul helped and cleaned up any left overs...
Thanks to all those who came out to join us, great crowd, great company 8)
More photos coming soon......

Re: End of Year Run October 14-15
I had a great time and learned a lot about the my disco's capabilities, and found this to be a very friendly and inviting group. Looking forward to many more runs.
Took a few photos' but here is one just after we pulled on to the Murray Lake off ramp with all 9 of the trucks lined up.

A few more pics from the trip. Great time was had by all!
Rovers in a row in the snow. I wonder who has food in their pockets? A bustling campsite

Can you pick out which Rover showed up at the campsite at 11pm the night before, making it 10 vehicles on the run?
I'll give you a hint. It came with a passenger....... :P
