Series 3 2.25 warped exhaust manifold?
Just wondering if this is common? I see there is a good sized gap between the first and last exhaust tubes of the manifold and the block.

Hi Dixono
Your question is kind of vague but if you are holding the exhaust manifold up to the block there may be a slight difference between the front and the back of the manifold. After you install a new composite gasket and bolt the intake and exhaust manifolds to the block evenly using a criss cross pattern (kind of like you would use for a head gasket) it should be okay.
However if you have a huge warp like maybe 1/4 inch difference you may have problems?
Also the intake and exhaust manifolds (4 long studs) should only be completely tightened together after both manifolds are installed and all nuts attaching them to the cylinder head are fully tightened.

Re: Series 3 2.25 warped exhaust manifold?
Ok I think my manifold is fine as it doesn’t have anywhere near a 1/4 inch gap between the manifold and block
So what do you mean about the studs?
Wouldn’t you tighten the studs into the block and then put the nuts on the studs to fasten the manifolds to the block?

Hi Dixono
Sorry the 4 long studs I mentioned to tighten up last are the 4 that hold the intake and exhaust manifolds to each other. They are maybe 3 inches long. There is also a gasket between the 2 manifolds. 4 nuts go on the 4 studs and tighten the 2 manifolds together, these 4 nuts should only be finger tight until all the other nuts bolting the intake and exhaust to the cylinder head are completely tightened.
Make sense?

Yeah that makes sense. Thanks for the tip!
