Newish to Off-Roading

#1 Post by Sunshine » Mon Jan 22, 2018 11:12 pm

Just wondering how to get into this on the Island? I have a 2000 Discovery II (it's my only car) so wanted to have a bit of fun with it.

Would there be some 'beginner' type roads that I could try? And do some people use their one car for this or do some of you have another Land Rover for this kind of sport? I sure wouldn't want to mess up mine too much (I don't care about mud, dust, water, scratches etc) as I need it for my 24/7 vehicle to go to work in ...

P.S. Used to live in Nairobi, Kenya so not afraid of a challenge either as used to potholes, dirt roads, dust, dried up riverbanks etc... :D

Welcome to the island :)

Mt. Sicker just north of Duncan is a good place to start. Easy access, mostly roads but some trails. Can include snow and ice this time of year. Good HAM radio coverage as well. Other good areas include Copper Canyon (open weekends only) or runs out to Bamfield or Mt. Arrowsmith.

Regards, Rob.

Oh super to hear... actually I've been on the Island for about 25 years but have never gone on any fun drives! Wish I had so I think the time is now! :D

Are there usually notices put out to let us know where there is one?

Thanks for the feedback!
