Coolant Hose replacements and flush and dexcool?

#1 Post by philchan1974 » Sun Sep 16, 2018 6:39 pm

Hi - Just wanted to find out a few things (and get some opinions)

I'm looking to change all my hoses on my D2 - just part of some preventative maintenance. I will need to drain the coolant to do this (also thinking about doing the water pump seal at the same time).

Therefore:

1) What is the best way to drain and then refill the coolant? I've heard the only way is a lot of mess by draining from the lower hose. Do I have to raise the expansion tank and fill while the bleed screw is open? Is this the way to burp the system?

2) Dexcool or not to dex cool? Honestly I was going to change over to green - once a complete flush is done. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I plan on flushing every couple of years and have read this is ok to change over...

2a) I should be using distilled water if I want to flush it properly - yes?

Thank you!

There is a drain plug in the bottom of the rad, should not make much of a mess, you should also pull both block drains, in-between 3 &5 and 4 & 6 on the outside of the block, usually messy. Normally 7/16 square headed plugs.

Thanks.

I didn't think the rad had a drain plug, therefore, the lower hose needed to be pulled (?)
